Incredible Day at the Afterbay

My buddy Rodney and I went to the Oroville Afterbay yesterday and had what I have to call an epic day!  The Afterbay is a warming "lake" for water being releasded from Lake Oroville Reservoir.  The design is to let water warm up before it is released into the Feather River or to agriculture for irrigation.  Depth varies from about 20 feet to very shallow flats and the water level fluctuates up and down about 5-7 feet depending on season and water lake releases. 
We got out there about 8 am, but really did not start catching fish until about 9:30.  But then it was on.  Rodney was throwing a 3/8 ounce green/red Thunder Cricket and I was throwing a green pumpkin 3/8 Jackhammer.  We started catching them in flat bays around emerging weed clumbs in 2-5 feet of water.  I only caught 6 fish, but their weight on Rodney's Bubba Scale was 28.4 pounds!  My best 5 were 25.1. I had a 6.38, 6.33, 5.05, 4.04. 3.55 and 3.30!  Rodney had about a dozen fish but also caught a few on a wacky senko, He had 5.85, 5.55, 5.3 and others we did not weigh.  His best 4 were over 20#.  These fish were absolute tanks, short and stout!  And very healthy.
I know we don't get days like that very often so really treasuring this one!
