I took two, 150 sized reels to Brazil to catch "300-reel sized fish".  not entirely bright on my part.  one was a Daiwa SV TW.  it got less than 10 good fish on it and it started making a horrible clacking noise, on my retrieves.  it was taking on water.   I also took a Shimano Curado 150 MGL.  I took a lot of giants on it. it also had the horrid duty of holding back a huge jerking topwater bait.  the drag would sometime slip on the hard jerks needed to impart the action on the bait.  I ran that reel FULL TIGHT on the drag.  almost full tight on the Daiwa....call it full tight.  fish would scream off line, no matter the drag.

I sent them in to a dude.  what I got back are entirely different reels.  super smooth, effortless casters.  I have an OEM Curado that is less luxurious.  the Daiwa, had one bad bearing.  both reels feel like new Zillions.  hahah..the Shimano was fine, according to the repair guy, he just cleaned/lubed it.  that reel punches way above it's weight class!!

I am comfortable with the fact that I won't dive into a reel.  I lack the tools.  I don't own tiny precision tools. I can take the motor out of a vintage 911 Porsche and do the clutch, but a tiny reel seems like "not my jam".

next time I go to Brazil, I will buy two new Trans 200's.  :D

Ha! Make some butter, because my Daiwa SV TW is toast.  lo

I am about to send it back to Daiwa USA for warranty repair. Has a loose metallic sound if you shake it, and screams like a banshee when you cast. Not sure what's wrong with it, because I wasn't sure how far I could tear it down without voiding my warranty.

Glad yours are nice and smooth now.

that too bad.  but yea.  the SV-TW starting showing wear fairly early.
