Saturday Derby

[No Excuses]

Me and Pop fished a derby on the local pond Saturday. Had strong tornadic thunderstorms 12 hrs prior. It really funked them up. Plus the water had dropped almost a foot from last weekend. Bluebird day so I stuck with the more neutral colored 810. Caught 10 or so. The bed fish I caught in Sundays video was still there. Ran thru my normal progression, Trick worm, jig, creature bait to no avail. Flipped The Truth in there and it swatted at it a few times. Wacky rigged it and caught the fish almost immediately. Went to boat flip it and it came unhooked and lost it. Fished about 100yds past it, turned around and came back, switched from 810 to white wacky rigged and caught it again. It was pretty cool. Also messed with a solid 4lb fish on another bed for a good bit. This time I took my creature bait off and put a Truth worm on Texas rigged with a pegged tungsten weight so I could anchor in the bed better. Set the hook 7 or 8 times but it just wasn't biting it good enough. I just keep being amazed at the versatility of this worm. We wound up with 5 for 9.34. 6th out of over 40. 13 something won. Did lose one big fish. Huge boil, didn't budge came unhooked after a couple seconds. Heartbreaker for sure. Good day with my Pop tho! Camera was in a funk too, no audio for some reason. Also picked up another retail outlet this week. Local C-Store ordered 50 paks! Enjoy!

Thanks Donald. A lot of folks around here have called it "Dead Oak" for many years. It's a hard lake to learn. Very frustrating at times, but aren't they all?
