Forecast for light and variable winds with air temps above freezing so Dale and I headed to Great Pond. There was 50' of 1" ice between the ramp and the lake. We found a way :) Started deep 25'-35'  with silver buddies, main lake over deep water was 45°. Marked fish and bait but had trouble getting them to fire. We caught 4 but at a pace that the 50 fish day we expected was not going to happen. Just 4 smallies in the first hour. Rest of day we moved shallow dragging a spider jig on a football head with boat in 25' casting to 10' dragging out around scattered boulders. Still slower than expecting. Adjusted our target to 20 lol. At 3:30 a very noticeable drop in temperature as the sun started to sink below the hills. We wimped out with 18 2-3 1/2 lbs  brown in the boat with one bonus green caught in 25' on the spider. A pretty cold water largemouth...... Truck said 30° when we headed home.

I tip my hat to you fishing in those conditions.  Sounds like you had a pretty good day and were rewarded for your efforts.  Thanks for sharing the report.

Always loved the cold fishing. Bass group up and when you find them you can really catch them. Thanks for the report. ~c~

Kudos Eric for sticking it out as long as you did. When I was younger I could do it but the older I get the less I seem to be able to handle the cold. This time of year for us New Englanders could be worse though.

First two weeks after and before ice the best there if you can pick your days.
