GREENLAND, N.H. -- The N.H. Fish and Game Department's Great Bay Discovery Center at 89 Depot Road in Greenland, N.H., is offering the following paddling events this summer.

Sunset Birding  The Great Bay estuary is teeming with wildlife in the hours leading up to sunset. Join our naturalists and search for kingfisher, terns, osprey, great blue heron, and more as the sun casts brilliant hues over the water.

Dates: Tuesday, August 15 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. / Monday, August 28 from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Location: Great Bay Discovery Center
Cost: $35 per person, $30 for Great Bay Stewards members, $25 with own kayak


NEW! Science on the Bay

Join naturalists from the Fish and Game Department and experts from the University of New Hampshire as we get up close and personal with the wildlife, habitats and current research in Great Bay.  Each Monday will feature a different expert!

Location: Great Bay Discovery Center
Cost: $35 per person, $30 for Great Bay Stewards members, $25 with own kayak

"Monitoring the Bay" with Christopher Peter, Research Technician, Jackson Estuarine Laboratory -- The estuary is a diverse, complicated and extremely important ecosystem.  Learn how researchers monitor these waters, track its changes, and determine its overall health.

Date: Monday, July 31, from 8:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

"Exploring Eelgrass" with Kalle Matso, Coastal Science Program Manager – Eelgrass is the largest habitat in Great Bay, but is rarely seen. Learn about the importance of this plant to the entire Great Bay ecosystem.

Date: Monday, August 7, from 1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Down the Lamprey

The Lamprey River is one of seven rivers that flow into the Great Bay.  Follow the tides and the bends of the Lamprey from Newmarket to where it joins the estuary, spying great blue heron and other wildlife unique to this habitat.

Date: Saturday, August 12, from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Location: Newmarket, NH (Call to register and meeting site directions)
Cost: $45 per person, $40 for Great Bay Stewards members, $35 with own kayak

Great Bay Stewards Paddle at Odiorne State Park

Bring your kayak and join the Great Bay Stewards (the Friends Group to the Great Bay Discovery Center) to learn how they have made huge strides in protecting the Bay! 

Date: Saturday, August 19, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Location: Odiorne State Park
Cost: FREE for Great Bay Stewards members; $35 if not a member, with membership included
