Can't make up my mind between the RM or PM.

Paul got me leaning towards his but I love the graphites as you can tell from my lineup. Ahhhh I'm tempted to buy em both!!!

Lol!

Tough choice. I have glass CB rods right now and when I replaced one a few days ago, I picked the Champion 736 CB Glass. I haven't been able to fish it yet but the Dobyns glass feels NOTHING like my current glass.

The rod I replaced was bigger, thicker, and heavier but was a noodle all the way through from tip to handle. The Dobyns glass is nice and soft through the tip then transitions to strong backbone. Feels like it will have all the power you need but still have the feel and finesse for CB's.

This rod is gonna be primarily for 8XD and deeper. Rich as always is keeping me in my graphite lane. But Paul on the other hand is like hands down his favorite rod (obviously lol) for deep cranking and the fact he's saying he threw a 10XD on it for a week straight and it wasn't tiring him out like the other 805 or 806. Mid depth cranking I strongly prefer sensitivity I want to feel every subtle contact. Where as glass the bumps may give me a delayed reaction to stop reeling. I don't have trouble keeping fish pinned but also I'm just now becoming a deep Cranker.... the 765CB was definitely overwhelmed by the 8XD...

I may actually just buy both and see what I like more at this point.

805 CB Graphite or 805 CB Glass. Paul LOVES the 805 CB Glass. This rod was a challenge to make. It took more tries than any rod I've ever built. Paul will say it's GREAT!!!! I say it's okay :)  For Glass it is a great rod. This boils down to the fishermen. I don't like Glass myself in most cases. I prefer graphite sticks. But there's a great following for Glass rods. We do very well with both. That 10 XD is a man killer to throw all day. There's no question it catches fish but it's a lot of work. I built the 806 CB for the 10 XD. It's a great rod and sells well. Many guys like to throw light A-Rigs on it as well. (both me and Richard use it for this). Paul wanted a Glass rod and convinced me there was a market (I had doubts). Paul loves it and obviously catches fish on it. He's on a good roll. The rod sales wise is doing well. We see a "slight" trend in more Graphite in the west and more Glass in the Eastern U.S.

Now I'll be a "bad guy" and throw another rod into the mix for 10 XD. The new 794 SB fishes 10 XD extremely well. Dobyns is really strong with CB and SB rods. Maybe we make too many but we certainly give fishermen options and something to talk about :)

THX guys!!

Hey Gary, yeah when Rich calls me back I may just do both ;D. I can't be for certain what I'll like more having not fished the glass for said applications. Hey side note since BASS lifted the 8ft rule you planning on exceeding 8ft in any of the current series anytime soon. I may be wrong but I think it's a 10ft limit now.

PLEASE--- after fishing them side by side tell us your thoughts. It'll still vary angler to angler but I love feedback. As far as longer than 8 footers for Cranking. It's a possibly as Paul is grinding on me again. He's a pain in the a$$ :) :)

It's a 6 year old thread, so may not get any response...

I can say I own both...started with the RM's several years ago, in fact I think the 764 and 805RM's might have been the first Dobyns Rods I purchased, years ago lol.  Now up to almost 40 of them.  Anyway, over the past year I've been switching over from my graphites cb's to Gary's graphite/composite models, and picked up the PM as part of that process.

Personally, I wouldn't throw an 8/10XD on it unless I absolutely had to, but I like it for your mainstream deep divers like DTs, XD's, DD's etc.  For the 8/10XD I move to the 806CB Graphite.  I do still use the 805RM Graphite, mostly when throwing around grass when I fell like I will need to be ripping baits in some fashion.  If I had to choose only one, it would be the RM - it's just more versatile imo.
