Fall spawning?

Doug
In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.

calincalif50

where are you at for them to spawn in the fall... Alaska????

I've heard of late bloomers, but late spawners... :roll2:

thats the only thing i could come up with to explain the blood driping from her tail it was a pond fish

Great fish ~c~ ~c~

Sometimes, especially in ponds, a bloody tail is a sign of parasites in the water. Usually not harmful to healthy fish but will finish off one that is on the way out anyway  :'(

When they get the parasites on their skin and tail they try to rub them off :-* Was there a bed :-\ it takes the cold of the winter to kill off all the smaller peditor fish before a bass will spawn. A spawn this time of year will be eaten up in a matter of hours :'( plus the fry wouldn't make it threw the winter.

Not saying it couldn't happen, I have seen stranger things in nature :shocking:

Now thats a nice fish!!! Good job.... Wish I could see a bass that big in real life.
There are no bad days, but better days spent fishing....

Not unusual at all for bass to spawn a 2nd time in the fall. I caught several on the Kokomo res. in Indiana last year that were full of eggs in Oct.  I called a Biologist  I had met on the lake that had been doing Creel surveys and he says that a certain % of the bass will always go twice unless the weather gets very cold very quickly.  It does make sense, I have known for years that bluegill here in Tenn. spawn at least twice sometimes 3 times and the bass is part of the sunfish family.

Yes, a very nice bass!  But these late spawns are sterile with no male fertilization. The eggs are usually duds, and the hormonal drive for mating isn't there. Fry couldn't harden off for winter anyway and would be eaten by shad, other bass and practically all other species.

both nice fish for sure, but (not meaning to offend) holding them away from your body like that makes em look bigger than they really are...they do stuff like that on the In-Fishermen TV shows all the time.

bluegills can spawn as much as 6 times on any given year, and consider the fact that they don't do it all at the same time...bass are part of the sunfish family, I don't see why they don't spawn more often myself.

Those are beautiful fish, Skipper.

We see multiple spawns down here,  and they keep beds active all summer and into fall.
Of course we have a longer growing season down here, and warmer water temps, guess alot of it depends on the environment they live in.
