Hey folks... i have a dobyns casting rod that, unfortunately, the tip got nicked and it now destroys the line i use. I've tried buying over the counter rod tips but they're all bigger then the one on my rod. Does anyone know if i can get the tips direct from Dobyns or if there are any specific brands that work better?
You probably dont want the ones off the shelf at the big box stores anyway. I am not sure about Dobyns warranty but I am sure that they can help you out. If not, measure the tip of the rod with digital calipers and then order a replacement on line. Mudhole is a good place to start and you can get a good Fuji with Alconite for a couple bucks.
Call Dobyns and tell Miranda that you need a new tip eye ;) She'll probably help you out ~shade
new tip is on the way!!!!
excellent ;)
now i just gotta figure out how to replace it! lol this will be my first try at it, so it should be... interesting

I am by no means an expert in rod repair, but this is probably the one time that Duck Tape WON'T work!
Tip eyes are very easy. Simply lightly heat it with a lighter and pull it straight off. Twisting and bend are a no no if it won't come off heat it some more until it does. To put the new one on, heat a glue stick and rub it on the blank and slide the new tip on. Just watch to make sure it goes on straight and lined up with the rest of the eyes.

sounds great man... i wish i could do it for the first time on a less valuable rod lol but what can ya do. I dont wanna treat any of my other rods as dummy rods.
I think you'll be surprised at how easy it is. If after you get it on, it's not straight heat it up again and Gentle twist to align.

Ditto. I did this for the first time last year and it was way easier than one would think it would be.
did the repair this evening and it was relatively easy. Appears to be a success at this point, and could NOT be happier with Dobyns customer service!!! Thank you Dobyns!
Time will tell how effective the repair was but i'm pretty comfortable with it. If i have to do a few more, i'm sure it'll get cleaner.
