Title: Recarpeting sealed wood question??
Post by: Top-Water on March 13, 2012, 07:42:23 PM
After applying 4 coats of spar varnish to plywood I'm worried that the glue will not adhear to the surface. Has anyone used Cabots marine durability spar varnish before and then carpeted over it? If so what were the results? I knew I had to seal the wood and while shopping for a good product the "marine durability" on the can jumped out at me so I rolled with it. Now I am thinking it may have been a mistake... This stuff seems like it's only for surface stuff. It's like glass. Please help!!

I would lightly sand the surface area you want to glue on with 80 grit paper. All you are looking for is roughing up the area so the glue will stick. 80 grit doesn't have a lot of bite so the wood will still have the protection of the varnish

Please do not use Outdoor Hub Mobile, Please find and use TapaTalk for your phone

4 coats of spar varnish...should be 'some' thickness there...
