Title: October 1, 2011 Championship
Post by: Lawguy513 on August 19, 2011, 07:45:44 AM
Following a vote of the qualified teams, the Championship Lake is set for Grand Bayou.  For those who don't know, Grand is a small sized lake in the Coushatta area.  The lake is shallow on the west side, especially west of the bridge, and deeper on the east side, especially near the spillway.  Because this lake is not on our regular circuit, and no members live on or fish this lake daily, it should be a fair challenge for all of the qualified teams.
The total cost of admission for this tournament is $60 per team, with $50 going towards the winner-take-all pot, and $10 going to biggest bass.  All other regular season rules apply.  The park has some cabins, and it might not be a bad idea to check into staying Friday night.  If enough people are interested, maybe we can do a fishfry Friday.
Feel free to post your chat leading up to the championship in this link, including whehter you have made reservations for the park to stay Friday night.

Got my cabin reserved already. I'll be staying Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday. Taking the wife and kids so anyone else who wants to come we can get together and cook out. Looking forward to it.

heck. i should just bring a few large party barges and we could all fish from the same boat.  lo  I can't believe ya'll want to go to a 20 acre lake that is 6 feet low.  ~roflmao  they just had the fishers of men championship there and the winners said it was pretty tough. They won with like 12.5lbs and they live on the lake. According to them, you can't run hardly at all becuase of water levels...if you can confirm or deny, please post.

Heading out there Tuesday but last I heard it was still very fishable. The river is only producing 12lbs right now as well? Heck don't know of too many places doing better than that.

Made it out to Grand Bayou Tuesday for a few hours. The water is low just like everywhere else but ran alot of places. its pretty shallow close to the ramp but once you get away from it the grass tells you where you can run. Lotts of grass everywhere and the fishing wasnt too bad. I havent been down there in a couple of years but was still able to catch a limit of unders and one slot fish. There were a few school fish but not many due to the cloud cover. One thing to remeber is to stay off the points when on plane. some of the points stick way out into the lake but other than that i felt safe out there compared to the other lakes in our area. ~cf

If there is 13 fishable points on GB...maybe we should just draw for points to fish so we can all have room.

I don't he a dog in this fight. But damn ZXBUG really  ~roflmao

The lake is low but there are a bunch of opportunities to catch fish. Your gonna have to dig into your bag of tricks. Remember it's a lake that has everything. Points, drop offs, school fish... If you want to catch them think outside the cypress tree box  :-*

Me personally, after fishing with John, I'd have a frog and punch rod on deck and that's it  ;D

Guys, I may not be able to make the championship.  Just got a call from my brother and looks like I'm going to be a best man.  I told him not to do it but he insists.  ~b~

Does anyone know what the water temp is now? Just wondering how much it's dropped with the cooler weather.

Went to GB yesterday, had limit of under by 10:00, no fish until 8:00. Someone turned the bite switch at 8:00 and I caught 8 in the next 2hrs. Biggest was 13 7/8 in no slots or overs. Lots of crappie fisherman counted 15 trailers in parking lot. Boat on trailer by 11:00. Most people were beaching boat on ramp after launch, no real place to tie up after launch.

Hey Jim what was the water temp if you don't mind? The way the fishing has been down there I don't think anyone will have trouble catching a limit of unders.

Congrats to Scotty for winning the Championship!  He and his son had 5 fish for 8.40 lbs, beating out Gullo and Evan with 8.35 and big bass.
I enjoyed running the club this year.  I still would love to see someone pick this up and run it next year.
