Title: Snow Drifts
Post by: Bassthumb on January 23, 2011, 11:56:13 AM
Attention all Nebraska and nearby Iwegians,

Make sure your gas meter is not covered by a snow drift.  Why: The meter has a valve in it that bleeds air out of the lines (called a burp valve).  When the burp valve is covered, the system will bleed off air inside your furnace room, at the next valve.  This releases some gas into your home and can be dangerous.

You should always check you gas meter after each windy snow event, and on windy days even after the snow stops falling.

Be Safe!

BT, Thanks for the tip. I Brush it off after all snows anyway. The meter reader cannot read it otherwise. He happens to be a nice guy.
