Title: I might hit the river this week
Post by: tennispro on April 07, 2010, 04:17:48 PM
If things go right I might be able to get on the river Friday afternoon or Saturday morning.  I still have to finish getting the boat ready.  But I just looked at the calander and I have two tournaments the weekend of the 24th.  That is only a couple weeks away.

For some reason I am really behind this year already.  I think it is the extra kid and that new bbq pit.  They take up to much time ~rant

I finally made it out on the river for the first time this year.  I ended up on the south end of the pool.  Not long after I got on the water Nate showed up.  We fished down the opposite sides of a cut and were talking when I got my first river bass of the year.  A nice 2.5lber, We worked our way down to the end of the cut and turned around.  After Nate took off I caught one more that was almost a twin to the first.  It came with in 15 yards of were I caught the first one.

I only had 3 hours so I was happy with two keepers.  Next trip out I will be fishing Spring lake for sure.

There sure wasn't much going on down south.  I expected the water to be alittle higher, but it didn't change much down there.  I hit another 5lbr and a couple of other nice keepers in the afternoon.  I nailed the 5 on the 3rd cast of a new spot and spent another hour or better sitting there casting and throwing everything in my boat at this pocket without another nibble.   lo  Did alot of running today.

I have a suggestion, don't waste your time!  lol, seriously though, I was there sat for a couple of hours with out a bite.  Things should turn on by this coming Fri.  Throw a spinnerbait and they will bite.

It better get better in a week!  lol, I've caught some nice fish just not alot of bites.  Its been tough for me so far this year ABA on Sun and I really have no gameplan.  I wanted to find a slough of 2-3lbrs I could fly into and catch 5 real quick and then head someplace else for some bigfish, but it just isn't happening.

I talked to a guy that was out today and he said the fishing was great.  He caught keepers every place he fished.

My one buddy that was out yesterday was fishing with another guy I work with.  He caught a 2 pound shad in Spring Lake on a spinnerbait.  It was hooked in the mouth

Thats good to hear.  I'm excited to go back out this weekend and see what has changed.  River is supposed to drop 2.5ft by next weekend, that can't be good.

the lower pool probably won't change much, but here is the forecast for the rest of it.

Rockfalls is about another 12 min down the road from Morrison.  Its at the american legion.  The best part about the meetings is the legion has 75 cent draft beers on Mondays.  Let me know if you are going and I will tell you how to get there.

I just found out that I am not going to fish Anglers Choice.  My partners has to work now.  I told him he just has to be on 20 pounds and he can call off.  But I don't think he bought it.

thats a bummer.  Probably better anyway.  I need to kill a turkey and fishing tournaments both sat and sun would really put a damper on that.  WOuld have had one tonight, but I was a nice brother and called 1 into 10 yards and let my sister shoot at it.  But she missed, twice.

Dang lo

I was going to hit the river this morning, but my thumbs were still sore from all the pigs yesterday.  I am going Sunday with my buddy.  Starting in spring and then go were ever the boat goes.

I don't think I will know what to do with only 5-10 mph winds.

Fished the ABA and finished 3rd with 13.77.  Was a tough bite, I only had 3 small fish with 20 min left.  Started KVding the bank and got a 4.13 and a 3.5lb fish.  Wish I would have picked up on that sooner.  I couldn't believe how tight to the bank they were.  I didn't have enough time to make another run back down the bank.  Another 3lbr and I would have been sitting pretty.

Wow I was out today and did not find a fish that was close to a bank.  But you are right the bite was tuff.  We ended up with 2 limits, but would have been only about 14 pounds at best.  We had the opposite of you, our fish got smaller as the day went on.  Spring lake looked like a boat show when I was in there.  I got my fish on a mix of swimjigs and vibrashocks.  I had a nice fish on a tube that got me hung and just as we got to it she came on hooked.

Did Adam fish ABA?? I saw him late morning.  What about Chase Gillette?  We talked to him in spring lake and he only had one fish at the time.  I really should have fished, but I talked myself out of it.  My buddy even asked when I met him at his house if we should go sign up.

I went to spring for about an hour and saw the show and got the heck out of there.  I'm kicking myself for not throwing the vibrashock or swimjig I had tied on today.  After catching those 2 on the spinnerbait I think they could have been good.  I'll be down south for next weekend as my spot won't have any water left in it.  The water is dropping about half a foot a day and the stupid corps of engineers is going to win the battley of getting the river as low as they can possibly get it and still let barges travel.  ~rant I didn't have time to prefish down there.  In fact I only caught 2 fish on sat prefishing and I went to that spot just hoping to get a limit.

Adam fished and so did Chase.  There was about 20 people showed up.

20 people for an ABA is good numbers.  I might have to do one this year if there are any more on pool 13

the next is 2 weeks on the dam road.  There wont be as many people because Adam, paul malone and Ken warren probably won't be fishing since they are the same days as bass worlds and anglers choice.

I might have to check that out.  I will just see how this one goes.  I really liked it better when I had 2 or 3 days to prefish.  Now its work all week and tournament on Sat ~b~

I hear that.  Once I get my house I will be able to fish everyday, but right now I have to drive 30min to get my boat and unless I fish by sabula another 30 minutes to get to a ramp.

I will trade that, for the hour that I have to go.  It kind of takes the fun out of getting off work and heading over for 3 hours till its dark and then going home.
