I think Darrin and Del were fishing somewhere else.  They pulled the same kinda magic at Naci.  Anyway about half the field had 0 or 1 fish.  I had one bite all day and just tore my bait setting the hook.  That was the only sign of life all day for us.  Have a plan if I get back up there any, but my motor is about to drop another coil.  We were stuck fishing one end of the lake almost all day because I couldn't hardly get on pad.  Then on the way in it kicked back in and ran o.k.  Will have to have them hook it up and see what one was cut out for half of our tournament ::)

I have something to say about the Merc...  ~xyz ~xyz ~xyz

I sent you a text about 1820 Saturday night to see how things went.  Guess you had your phone off or something.  Sounds like it was a tough day.  What did the winners catch their fish on supposedly besides the one swimbait fish??

I don't know.  I heard someone say probably senkos since that is what lots of guys were fishing, but I didn't ask.  I think it was more location than anything since there were 33 boats and lot of experience out there and they more than doubled the next closest weight.  If they really knew the fish were in a spot and dead sticked or something like that???

66 guys and a total of 58~ fish caught :shocking:... not my idea of a strong pattern for anything.

Will you and Cal still do the Tri-Valley on the 27th?
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: Dean on February 15, 2010, 12:00:55 PM
Not sure.  I haven't been able to get a hold of him.  I called the other evening when i got home and left a message.  I have to try and get my boat in this week and see if they can identify what coil dropped off.

Well hopefully you get things worked out with your motor.  I am in the same situation as you when I need any work done by the dealer I have to drive 2  1/4 hours do get it done.  Since the place I bought my boat at is no longer a Skeeter dealer I still drive the same distance because another marine place over there is now a Skeeter Dealer.  Haven't used them yet but still quite a long drive.

I did use Randy at Casitas before for my yearly maintenance but with the Quagga issue they won't let me in just to have my boat worked on I have to request their tag and that's not happening.

Dean,

Did you get to take your boat down to the dealer?  If so what was the problem?
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: Dean on February 18, 2010, 10:51:04 PM
I took it up the other evening kinda late and forgot to leave the  ^-^ key.  So today I got to spend more money to Fedex it to them.  They should have it by noon tomorrow and said they should be able to run any codes shortly after and let me know.  It felt like the same thing as last March at Clear Lake... kinda sucks but at least I am confident they can fix it quickly.  I just hope I am getting the latest coils.  I heard from a rep that they are on the 4th supplier?  I just don't want the same crap ones put in until they run out of them, ya know?

Yamaha better hurry up on the 175 Vmax SHO in case this thing ever blows up. ;D

Post by: TomG on February 21, 2010, 07:16:58 PM
So was it the coils?
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: Dean on February 22, 2010, 12:02:32 AM
Yep.  Another coil.  Hope to hear Tuesday if they will replace the rest with updated models.  I expect them to try to resolve the issue more so than just get it running for now... we'll see what they will do.

Did you get your boat back??  Did you guys end up fishing the Tri-valley Margarita trny?  I read they had 46 boats!
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: calincalif50 on March 02, 2010, 08:49:51 AM
Tom,
Yes we fished the Tri, we finished in 13th with 15.6????, there were 49 boats, he got his boat back so we used it.   Big fish was 11.90
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: Dean on March 02, 2010, 08:54:07 AM
Yep.  Got it back with all 6 coils replaced, and running good.  We fished Saturday in the wind, rain and hail with 48 other boats.  Finished 13th with 15.16#  Winner had 26# on the weight of a 11.9#.  Second place had an 8.5# in their 18# bag.  It was kinda slow, but the big ones were starting to show up.  ;D

What's the price of a Tri-Valley trny with all options plus membership run?  Stan and I were curious, we may do one or two.
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: calincalif50 on March 02, 2010, 11:57:15 AM
Membership:  $35, entry fee:  $70 per boat, big fish is the only option at $10 if I remember correctly

Dean?????

Cal,

Thanks for the info.  Did you guys get any swimbait fish?
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: calincalif50 on March 02, 2010, 05:10:56 PM
no none, Dean threw one for a little bit around the tules, but no takers.  We plan on going up there again around the 15th for 2 days of fishing for just swimbait fish.  If it doesn't pan out  the 15th then we'll hit Cachuma the 16th

You guys are only gonna pre-fish once for the ABA Cachuma trny??
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: calincalif50 on March 03, 2010, 11:18:35 AM
Why not we know that lake like the back of our hands... :shocking:  Actually will do more but on different occasions and in seperate boats.  at least 2-3 more times myself and then we'll get together and fine tune our approach.

Besides it lets me fish more often than normal

I'll spend the $130 for the season pass the first ime out this weekend, probably this sunday

Not really, Tom.  If all goes as planned I'll be out there the rest of that week.  Don't worry I won't beat 'em up on Friday in all your spots.  lo  Hope we can get something going on Tuesday and try to build on it Wed/Thurs.  Might not even go friday, but could if I think I want to graph some more spots or something.
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: TomG on March 03, 2010, 07:29:49 PM
Well I can tell you one thing from our experiences last year.  If you are out there practicing on Thursday or Friday you better be prepared for people watching where you are fishing then checking it out after you leave.  We haven't been practicing for any trny after Tuesday every once in awhile we might go on Wednesday.

Well our main spot is a quagga shell bed that rises up from 20ft to 5ft on top and is surrounded by tulle's.  So if you find that area............please don't fish it.......... lo

Tom & Stan, you two need to stay off of our tournament trail that way we can fish your honey hole.  You know the one I'm talkin bout!
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: Dean on March 04, 2010, 12:27:57 AM
Yeah, I know what you mean... my goal is to not fish more than 30 minutes anywhere no matter how we get bit.  If someone sees you spend a lot of time on a spot, especially offshore stuff, they want to know what is there.  Surprisingly, not everyone has mapping cards yet???

Anyway, if you guys didn't win so much out there, you wouldn't have a target painted on your boats!  lo  Cal, and I on the other hand are pretty low key guys and no one watches where we catch our 20# bags   ;D

I guess we will see you and Cal out there in the next couple weeks.

Mike,
I thought you gave up............. ~cf , haven't heard from you in a long time........what gives???  and don't tell me work..
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: JonBoatMike on March 04, 2010, 08:32:02 PM
I never gave up!  I'm too competitive for that.  It just seem's like I can never put together a good day in these Cali tournaments and I just hate throwing away over $100 to fish the ABA.  You & Stan are welcome to give me a call some weekend and I'll take you out fishin in the Champ, just not at Cachuma.

Where's a good place close by to get my boat serviced (mercury)?

Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: TomG on March 07, 2010, 07:33:00 PM
No idea on the Merc as I don't have that motor.  I may give you a call, I wouldn't mind hitting Lopez sometime since my boat will pretty much stay tagged for Cachuma throughout the rest of the trny season.  So are you and Chris doing the Tri-valley at Cachuma on the 27th?
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: Dean on March 08, 2010, 07:56:36 PM
Mike,

I've been taking mine to VS marine in Atascadero for warranty stuff.  I don't know what their rates are like, but they are good guys to deal with, and do merc warranty service.

The number there is 805-466-9058.  JB McDonald is the service guy I dealt with.
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: JonBoatMike on March 08, 2010, 10:14:40 PM
Thanks Dean, I'll give them a call.

It's really weird, my motor acts like its starving for fuel at idle and will die when I put in forward unless I trim it up past halfway, then it start & runs just fine.  It's not a huge deal, but it gets annoying really quick...

Tom,
Yep we'll be there on the 27th.  I think the plan is to pre-fish this Sunday.  How about you & Stan?
Title: Re: Dean ?

Yea, we plan on doing Tri-Valley and we have ABA on the 20th out there.
Title: Re: Dean ?
Post by: calincalif50 on March 09, 2010, 10:28:31 AM
Guess we'll all be there.  I was planning on going this Thursday, Sunday, Tuesday, then again the week before the 27th.  now I'm not sure if I can afford to go all those days as I just forked out $551 on a replacement water pump, hoses, labor.  That cut into my fishing budget big time.  Will have to wait and see.  I definitely can't go thursday, will have to wait closer to next payday

I like the "never go back" part, fishin at Cachuma sucks azz!  Tom & Stan you guys are my Idol, I don't have the patience for it...   ~xyz ~rant ^-^ >:(

Cachuma has been tough for us this week also.  Last week prior to the Anglers Choice trny we were each catching about 15lbs of fish a day.  Not so this week they are in a funk and it has been very tough.

Don't think this one.  We're planning to spend some time at Lopez before our next ABA.  Give me a call... I can fill you in on your/our first stop.   lo   That place was a zoo, but lots of guys fishing too fast I guess.

yeah, or the year before?  I think the worst I caught last year was a 6 lb drum at Pickwick.  That'll raise your blood pressure when you set the hook  lo

That was a pretty big squaw fish...............I think Stan has caught a few of those at Margarita also.  I have only caught one or two and they were small ones.
