Title: Questions about College Degrees and Professional Angling.
Post by: kand2197 on September 27, 2009, 06:22:04 PM
Hello everyone. I want to be a professional angler so I thought that getting a college degree would really help. So I am starting college in January I am wanting to take business and marketing I was just wondering if this is the right thing I should be taking to help my career as a pro angler? Even if the pro fishing thing doesn't work out I would still have a another career to fall back on.

What Goliac7 said.

pays to have inside knowledge of business and marketing if your going to market yourself for a career

Good luck press on

That'll be $15.00 for consultation fees.   ;)

Even better idea is to go to a school with a fishing team.  You'll get on tv and start seeing what is expected.

pick a career path you would want to follow all on its own...every degreed program will have some business courses you need to take...

speaking as a parent of college kid who wants to be a rock star/musician (loud GROAN!), I see the value of that education...once earned, it's something that can never be taken away...and a lot of companies today just about require a degree to even get an interview...you just never know what life is going to throw your way...expect the unexpected...

sounds like you have a good plan...stay after it.  See the value in the education...the hard work you'll have to put in the education will also apply to the hard work you have to put in to be successful at fishing or anything you want to succeed at in life...

good question.  good plan.

Go get 'em!

This would be the thing to do if youre trying to go that way. I go to a community college and we do not have the opportunities other four year schools have to fish college tournaments. I wish they would allow it but for some reason it has to be some kind of four year school or university.
