Title: Adding a jackplate
Post by: tmlrock2001 on March 08, 2009, 10:29:06 AM
I have a 482 with dual cable steering and want to add a jackplate. My questions are

1. Will my cables be long enough to add a 6" plate and will I have to drill different holes to change the angle of the cables or can I run them directly?

2. If the cables are too short or if the angle is too bad can I add a 4" without any problems?

3. Also I am going with manual (cost) so which brand do you guys recommend? I would like one that you can change on the water

The cables usually aren't long enough, but take some careful measurements to be sure. Don't know if I'd go to the expense of a hydraulic unit on that boat, but to each his own. I've never played with that model either so hopefully someone more informed can give you a recommendation on setback.
