Title: Unbelievable-Sad Day
Post by: joe4theavs on August 20, 2008, 10:05:50 AM
 >:( Well, went to a local Denver pond that is one of my favs in the area.

Showed up at the normal spot only to see a disaster.  Something really really F'd up happened to the fish.  Hundreds dead and gone.  At least 6-8 3.5 pound+ Largemouth dead.

Why, why?  I was just there twice in the last week and it was producing like mofo.  Hope there is something left in this water.  >:(  I couldn't even fish after seeing this.  All you see is fins all across the water.

Went there on Sat between rain storms and it had a very strong nasty odor.  Someone had of dumped something in here.  I'm going to call DOW today.

Bad picture quality but I wanted to post this insanity.  ~xyz

Went home and had to pour out some liquor for my dead homies.

Sad sad day.

No luck.  I have a sneaking suspicion someone dumped some anti-freeze or chemical in the pond.  Its not the greatest area (lots of people dump their trash near the pond).  I just hope it makes a recovery.

Ok, after some research, it may not be from a chemical dump.

See this article on water turnover...

We have a lake here in our local area that suffers bad from the turn over each fall.

Last year while out prefishing I counted so many that were DOA we thought about changing the tournament location.  It was bad, there were buzzards all over the banks eating 4 to 6 lb bass.

Any idea if it made a recovery?

Makes sense for sure.  We had that cold hard rain, it changed colors(green) during the rains and the place is guarded decently from wind.

Yep fishing wasn't to bad and have heard good reports over th year so far.  I was told it happens every year, but it was bad last year Mid/late sep.

It is one ot the deeper lakes around here, most of our water is 4 to 10 foot and turn over isn't a big deal but this lake has a lot of water in the 18 to 30 foot range.

Joe,

I'd find out who manages the pond. It might be the city or county, or state. This isn't turnover.
