club fished there this past Saturday. Were able to muster 5 boats...plenty of fish were caught...winning card had 5 between 19 and 21 inches...that's a quality 'bag' no matter where you are...
I finished far, far back, but had a ball none-the-less. Found my fish shallow near weeds (both the coontail beds and submerged shoreline grass)...
For the weekend, I was able to manage 4 fish over 18 inches with a big one of 19.5... 2 came on the Horny Toad buzzed along through the weeds...2 came off a Heddon torpedo...lots of smaller 13-14 inch fish back in the 'canal' area by fishing the Horny Toad from the shoreline out across the weedmats and duckweed...
Fun fishing...and I ended up chasing the 'fun' bite instead of looking for the big bites I needed for the tournament. Larger fish were apparently on structure breaks in 6-10 feet of water and took plastics...
Saw some good fish taken from deeper water on a C-rig...
Water temps were 81°F by the dam on Friday evening and 85°F on the shallow north end (Friday was a hot, humid day well over 90°F)...cool front came through about 2AM Saturday morning and water temps were 79°F all over the lake. Didn't seem to slow the bite down much at all in the early AM...
Also of note: probably 7-8 northern pike were hooked and released. No telling how many were hooked and the angler 'zipped'...but it's nice to see them coming back a bit...not very large...just in the 20-24 inch class...but a real sporty fish...
Maskenthine is rather small...about 98 acres or so...but it does have a nice campground with hot/cold showers...think I'll head back up there this fall once football season starts and the 'so-called' anglers take their guns for long walks in the tall grass...
