Title: Boat Show Tickets
Post by: bassadict69 on January 18, 2007, 11:14:41 AM
Anyone have access to or have any extra of the free tickets for the boat show today?

Me & Brian decided to go today but found out everyone is out of tickets, at least everyone on this side of town.

Left work & ran all the way to west Shreveport to Alleman Kawasaki because someone there told me on the phone that they had about 500 tickets left. I get there & was told that they had about 50 this morning & they were gone in the first two hours. I was also told they only had 500 tickets to begin with!  :bang ~rant

I don't know who I talked to on the phone & it is probably a good thing or I am afraid I would have had to invite his ass out back. I was ticked pretty bad! What a waste of time & gas!  ~rant ~rant

only tackle i saw was upstairs, it was the riverbottom baits? a guy did have some rods that on the handle there was a slit cut down the handle for your baits to slide threw so when you put them in your box they wont get hung up? that was it.

That rod was there last year too. Neat idea but I didn't like the blanks at all  :'(

If you want a good show with lots of tackle and boats you will need to go to the Houston, Dallas, or Arlington shows. Anything called a boat show around here is like a bad welfare case,  :bang put together lazily and not worth wasting your time on. The shows over in Texas generally have between 1000 and 4000 booths that take a full day or 2 to walk through and you will see more tackle than you have anywhere in your life. ;D

Last year the so called boat show in Lake Charles was the same way. If you were looking to buy an RV you would have been in heaven. They had, and I'm not joking, maybe two or three fiberglass bass boats and the rest of the boats were bay boats and aluminum boats, and there wasn't many of those. Pitiful.

Wonder what happened to all the fishing venders...they use to have it at the fairgronds and there were venders everywhere...even K-mart was there.....Kinda wonder if having it in the new facility priced the little guys away..

Someone in charge at one of these convention centers should consider the format used with some of the shows in TX, if thats a possibility.

Guys its a ripoff EVEN with FREE tickets.... there is a 200K RV if you were ever wondering what one looked like inside.  Had a Good conversation with Ben Clemens... got some exercise running from Reeves Salesgoons that didnt take... JUST LOOKING  at face value.  Saw one of the salestools about pass out when someone asked what made a 54k Ranger worth that. He kept stammering that " it it it it iTS A RANGER" " LOOK at the LOWRANCE 52Inch flat screen fish finder...."  Classic.
Seriously folks the only thing I remember about it was the last booth up stairs in the back corner.... you can get starburst and snickers.
IM guessing there are about 25 vendors upstairs, 4 Banks, one soft plastics booth, 1 Rod booth, 10 travel/guide services, a few useless around the house seen-on-tv deals, and a trailer supply deal.  Oh and KRMD.

All in all save your $$  a total waste of time

Thats the main reason....why come and spend maybe $1000 to $2000 in Shreveport when you can sell your product in Dallas or Houston for $600 a booth and 100 times the attendance. Just common sense makes the decision for me. :-*

Have not been on the water in several days papa.....Drove around looking though and have not seen any. The pier at the state park in Oil City is under and expected 1 more ft. rise by sunday morning. Plus any rain we get this weekend. :( We really need a good flushing in the lake, think the lake will really benefit from all this by springtime. Sorry to get off subject.... '-{

Even the vendors looked like they would enjoy a stick in the eye rather than sit for a minute more.

I cannot believe Rodney has his picture everywhere, I asked one of his salesmen if he(Rodney) liked himself or what, guy turned red but did not answer so I told him that alone would keep me from buying a boat from them. By the way they bought out Riverside Marine wednsday and closed them up.

Yes they had been at the old Reeves location for over a year. I had just worked a deal with their Bait store to get discounts for UB members. He said he found out when they walked in Wednesday morning to start moving inventory. Owner never even said anything.

True Story, they(Rodney and Brad Reeves) walked in Wednesday morning and told all employees to "pack your sh!!, get out, your all fired" was the exact words that were said. I was told this from Dennis who was the mechanic working there that morning. Not sure of his last name, but knew him from when he worked at Bass Pro Shops in the Tracker dealership. They were bought out because Reeves needed a competitive aluminum boat line. G3.

Ok i havent met ONE PERSON that likes Rodney Reeves.... so WHY do people keep using him?  Because he gives a promotional boat to anyone that walks in the door?   For crying out loud his salesman used to sell furniture, they dont know a strake from a transom.

Just a friendly reminder here.

I also have yet to hear much of anything positive, but everything for me has been word of mouth.  I've never been treated bad by anyone there, even if I have only been looking around a few times.

I know it has to be hard to lose your job, Danielle my wife lost hers on 2 Jan 07; what a way to start the new year.

Lets make sure we hold this topic to the same standards as the rest of the site and try and keep criticism constructive.  Helps Mike Laurie and Ultimatebass.com out immensely by being known to talk through topics like this with out slandering people or companies.

Thanks Guys

I guess I'm missing something here.....Someone at Riverside had to agree to sell the place...and apparently did so....

Could have been bought by Travis, Smith, or any of the other dealers that wanted the place...Not taking up for Reeves but trying to figure out how anyone can make another sell a business of this sort unless they wanted to...and got an offer the couldn't refuse...

As to wanting the G3 boat line...Would be strange that G3 would let Reeves have that line when Travis already handled that boat....in the same city..

Hogwild,
Plano Marine and Reeves have both been trying to buy them out and Reeves got it for whatever reason or amount of money. The owners did sell out, but it was the way Reeves went about taking it over with the current employees there...as far as 2 lines in the same city...don't know.

My bad Bassbuff....but didn't Reeves already have G3 when they were in the old place that had been occupied by Riverside?  I do remember looking at their metal boats back then...What metal boats had Reeves been selling lately...think they did have some duracraft for a while.?

Scottie it is the way they carry on their business that turns people off, they had every right to buy the business but not to walk in and tell  all the employees to get off of the premises now and take your stuff with you. In about 1973 I worked overtime for months , worked Sats and Suns to get a down payment. I saved 1000.00. I was fresh out of the army and about 24 years old. I was so proud when I walked in that business to buy me a boat with all that money burning a hole in my pocket. I walked up to Rodney and told him I wanted to buy a new Starfire with a 150 on it. He said did I have any credit to finance it I said yes I had already checked with my bank. Then I said and I have a thousand dollars for a down payment and reached in my pocket to pull it out I felt like Howard Hughes, he looked at me and said man that ain't no money for a down payment on a 14,000.00 dollar boat. I was so deflated I just turned around a walked out. I mean he could have slapped me and not hurt as much. I went over to Texas and bought a boat the next day and the guy over there patted me on the back and acted like I was an important person. I bought a couple more boats over there before they moved away.
I now do business with Mr. Smith because he always remembers my name and is glad to see me.

I can surely understand that Papa...Sometimes these salesfolks just don't get it.....I've only bought a couple of jon boats from them and can't really complain...was paying cash anyway so no biggy there......

Folks don't have to be buttholes either...that really turns me when some of these business think they are "gods", especially when telling someone they just don't have a job no more..

But...I'd be just as mad at the formor owner of Reverside for now letting his employees know that the place is up for sale so you may wish to kinds be prepared for that...I have had nothing but positive dealings with Smith's marine...Hershel really worked to get me the deal I got and has done a few extra things since...service has been very prompt also...

Thanks for the insight on Reeves...

I've bought 2 small boats in my life. One from Rodney and one from Brad. Brad was just out of school and his attitude was O.K. at best. Rodney was a jerk. I've had to deal with him a few times since and he's been a jerk every time. Just the way he speaks to people. I have spoken to Rusty several times and I liked him. My dads friends with him and said he was a good dude. But evidently he's not there anymore. Just the jerks. I'm in the market as of today and I will not be shopping there no matter how good a deal they got.

Went over to Riverside (Sports Mall) I believe it was last Thursday to buy some Mean Green Mono and they had all their tackle in plastic bags sitting on the floor.  I couldn't believe it...asked what in the world was going on and he said they were moving quickly.  He couldn't tell me exactly where because the details were not to be worked out until that afternoon but did tell me that if the deal went through...that Riverside was moving to Bossier City.  They were nice enough to sell me the last two boxes of 17lb test Mono they had.  I really hate that they have moved.  Sportsmall is on my side of town...now it looks like to get my MeanGreen...I'm going to have to go to Travis or wait until I have a tourney on the Red and get it from Clarks Marina.   :'(
