Title: Gold Coast 2007
Post by: TomG on December 06, 2006, 10:35:37 PM
I spoke with Glenn tonight and he gave me the 2007 schedule.  Stan the Gold Coast schedule conflicts with 3 of the Anglers choice tournaments, the one on Feb 24 is actually at the same lake, I am not sure if Glenn and them know about that.  I didn't notice until after I got off the phone with him.  He also said one of the rule changes for this year is that if you fish alone you can weigh in 5 fish.

2007 Schedule:
Jan 27th / Lopez
Feb 24th / Cachuma
Mar 31st / Casitas
Apr 28th / Margarita
May 26th / Cachuma
Jun 30th / Naci
Jul 21st / Open tournament - Lopez
Jul 28th / Lopez
Aug 25th / Naci - night tournament
Sep 29th / Margarita
Oct 20 & 21 / Margarita

Stan let me know what you think.  If we fished Pacific coast region two tournament's would conflict with Gold Coast.  So just look over all the schedule's and let me know what you are thinking.

I'll check it out.  Looks like someone on the tournament scheduling committee has a favorin' for Margarita.  Wow, lopez only twice!?!

Tom are you sure about that 1 guy 5 fish deal for goldcoast?  I'm looking at the schedules and it looks like no matter which way I go I'm gonna miss two Gold Coast trn's.  I wish the Central Coast was doing more Cachuma's.  Cal, would you mind me missing 2 tourn's if the new rule change is valid?  I'll give you the money though or Tom maybe you could fish one alone and Cal could fish one alone?  Talk to me guys.

Alot is going to depend on the five fish rule.  If its true then I've no problem, I'll just follow Mike when he's alone, either way I'll still fish the 2 trnys you miss.  Which ones will you be missing?

Well we only need 5 to qualify for the Classic and there are 7 scheduled.  If I fish GC in Jan that would probably help us out more, and then I could skip the Naci trn on June 30.  You probably wouldn't have any problem at Naci but Lopez in Jan we would be better off with 2 lures in the water rather than 1.  And Tom would fish Naci in Jan which would probably be Okay for one guy.  What do you think about that Tom/Cal?   ???

Okay Cal, talked to Tom last night and here is the deal.  You and I will fish all of the Gold Coast schedule and Tom and I will fish the Pacific and Central Coast schedules and we will fish around the Gold Coast schedule.  We have decided to pick tournaments from both schedules as we go and not worry so much about fishing the TOC at Lake Havasu.  So I won't be missing any GC tournaments.

Just ordered a new depth finder for the console, so if you know anyone looking for a starter depth finder let me know, it's that Piranah that I have on the console now.

what did you order?

I'm going to upgrade my front one with the Lowrance 320 C sometime in the new year, have to wait to see what xmas brings

Figured out its cheaper even with shipping to order the Motorguide 46/36 shaft from BPS than to get the MinKota from Wallys at $311 + tax, it is $20 more

I got the Lowrance LCX 17M, GPS/Chartplotter.  It's the same as Tom's with some upgrades, don't know what they are except it can read different data cards. What a deal too, normally $900, on sale for just under $500.  Should be here just before Christmas.  I didn't get the color one because I'm so use to seeing it in greyscale and It cost about $1000 more than the one I got.  I guess I can put that piranha on the pond boat so that I can see that the lakes on base are 8 ft deep :roll2:.  That's cool that you got a better trolling motor for less money, when do you expect to get it.?  Is it a 24v or 12v motor?
Title: Re: Gold Coast 2007
Post by: calincalif50 on December 14, 2006, 12:20:47 PM
should be here in 7-10 days, 46 lb thrust, 36 inch shaft.  The old one I discovered is only 32 inches, they must have made them smaller back then, and it was only a 43 lb thrust, so I've gained 3 lbs to power my way thru all heavy weeds at Cachuma.. :roll2: :roll2:  If the motor comes in on a weekday, i might get the time to install it and give it a try at Lopez before the end of the year.

I liked the finder you and Tom got, it looks cool, maybe someday I'll make it up to the big boys toys and get one with a chart plotter in it,  like maybe the 797i hummingbird........do you see any pigs flying?    I think I just need to adjust some settings on my Lowrance so it sees better, it does pretty good seeing those fish at the bottom, and I can see the jig bouncing up and down, but it just seems to be a little off in clarity, might be contrast I need to play with.  next time were on the lake, I'll have you look at it for me.  Unfortunately it dosen't save the settings , so you have to reset every time you reboot.

Sent for my reduced license this week so it should be back by the end of the month just in time for the new year

Also found out that if your 50% disabled veteran there is a form you can fill out to apply for FREE entry to a mojority of STATE parks, minus the extra vehicles/boat.  So camping would only cost me the boat daily fee at Lake San Antonio.  Unfortunately since Cachuma is a county park, it dosen't apply,  ~xyz I think we vets should have free acccess to all the lakes

Yeah, free entry into all lakes, I'll vote for that!

Alright I want to confirm one last time Stan, we are fishing the Naci tournament on the 18th of Feb correct?  Who's boat are we using first my boat or yours?  I just want to know so I can start trying to plan out some pre-fishing days.
Title: Re: Gold Coast 2007
Post by: Stan on December 15, 2006, 04:36:02 PM
Yes, and we can use yours first if you want, that is fine by me.  I got a question, that MMC cord and driver you have, do you have that because your computer doesn't accept MMC cards and it is just an adapter so you can plug into a USB port?
Title: Re: Gold Coast 2007
Post by: TomG on December 15, 2006, 07:08:22 PM
Thats correct, my computer doesn't accept the MMC card.  I am not sure if any computer's accept the card.  I plug in the card reader to the USB port put the card in the reader and then download the Lopez/Margarita map file.  Then I put my Hot Spots elite map card in slot "A" of my finder and the other card which has the lopez map in slot "B" and it works together with the other card to lay the map down.  Like I said the card readers are cheap anywhere from 8.00 to 20.00 dollars.

Post by: Stan on December 15, 2006, 07:19:51 PM
Okay just checking because my computer does read MCC cards, so I'm thinkin' I can put the card in and download straight to the card, but first I need the card.  Can you look at the maps on your card with the computer?

Post by: TomG on December 17, 2006, 09:25:49 PM
Stan, I put all the tournaments on a calendar and took a look at them.  Here is what I came up with for an Anglers Choice Schedule some tournaments match up with Gold Coast so it would work out with pre-fishing.  I didn't include any of the Casitas tournaments so we could add one or both in if you wanted to.  We could fish the proposed schedule completely or pick the ones you like out of it if it starts to become too much.  I decided to throw out the Naci tournament because of the drive for pre-fishing and because its so expensive to get into the lake.  Like I said none of these dates conflict with Gold Coast and some are right before or right after the Gold Coast tournament.  Call me tomorrow after work if you have any questions.

Proposed Schedule:
1)  17 March / Lopez                    Central Coast
2)  24 March / Lopez                    Pacific Coast
3)  21 April / Margarita                  Pacific Coast
4)  13 May / Cachuma                  Pacific Coast
5)  09 June / Lopez                      Pacific Coast
6)  07 July / Cachuma                  Central Coast

That looks okay to me.  I guess time will tell.  You might consider the 18 Feb at Naci ' cause that would give us 5 in the Pacific region just in case you change your mind about going to Havasu?!  Just a thought.  At least we'll have the opportunity if you change your mind.
Title: Re: Gold Coast 2007
Post by: TomG on December 18, 2006, 08:29:46 PM
I thought as long as we fish five tournaments with Anglers Choice regardless of what region they are in we would qualify for Havasu?
Title: Re: Gold Coast 2007
Post by: Stan on December 19, 2006, 11:13:16 AM
Better check the rules!  I think it's 5 in one region or 7 in more than one to qualify for a wildcard position.
Title: Re: Gold Coast 2007
Post by: TomG on December 19, 2006, 06:57:13 PM
Yea, its 5 in one region and we are in Region 2 but we will be fishing the Central division and the pacific division.  From what I could tell you can fish different division and qualify through something called "choice division" or something like that.

Stan, I e-mailed one of the guys from anglers choice here is what he had to say about our schedule.

Tom you can fish 4 tournaments in the Pacific Coast and 2 in the Central. That will give you 6 tournaments in the Choice division. If at the end of the year you have enough points to qualify you can Fish Havasu or any of the TOC. It would be better for you if you could pick up one more tournament in any of the divisions in Region 2. That way you would have 7 tournaments. To qualify you only need 5 tournaments. It would be hard to qualify with just five, We had several teams qualify in Choice this year with 6 tournaments. If there is any thing else I can do to help let me know. Hope to see you at the TOC in Havasu.  Vern

So we don't have to fish 5 out of a particular trial.  Our plan will work and like he said if we want to throw in another tournament to up our odds that will work also.  But we should be good to go with those six and we should be able to qualify throught the choice division.

That's what I was thinking last night.  After reading all the rules again I just decided to safer bet would be to get clarification.  So now I can fish the Gold Coast Feb 24th tournament at Cachuma.  I won't be fishing the Jan lopez tournament though, I have a TDY the week leading up to the tournament the 22-26th of Jan.  So I will just do alot of pre-fishing at Cachuma I guess.

Stan, there has been a change to the 2007 Central Coast Schedule.  There will be a Cahcuma tournament on 21 Jan 07.  I still won't be able to make that one though, I will be TDY from 22 - 26 Jan.

Also, central coast division has an "off-limits" from Monday - Friday but Pacific Coast does not.  I wish there were margarita tournaments in Feb.

I found out we can ask for a re-weigh if our fish are still in the basket... only thing is if the weight is lower, you have to take the new weight anyway.  I wouldn't ever ask unless I was sure we had more like at Naci, so no problem there.

Tom, I talked to Bob about the posts, and he said no problem, just Fred never cared and would talk to others himself about what was working, and where they caught a big one!

Am I a non-v type?  I don't think I would ask for a re-weigh, I'm just concerned that they are writing my weight down by my name and not someone else's. lo  Maybe they'll get better at that this year.  How hard could it be.

I would agree with that, since we have been pretty much cleaning up at that tournament as a group.
