I will talk to Dean about it but I figure we could do like normal the four of us and if anyone wants to invite someone that's cool but it will be an individual tournament.  It will keep us from getting bored until the 2007 season starts............... :)

What's the story with this?  I wanna ask 4 guys to fish it but I need to know the date.  One of them has a boat of his own.

Post by: TomG on October 25, 2006, 08:57:55 AM
Dean, hasn's said for sure that he wants to fish but I am a definite and so are  you and Cal so I say let's press on.  You guys pick the date I don't have any plans for going any place.  We can talk about it at the meeting tonight.

99% moon on the 4th, full moon is on the 5th, new moon on the 20th.

Maybe the 18th or the 25th??  If you have other suggestion's on dates post them.  Lets find out what works for the majority.
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Stan on October 26, 2006, 10:00:19 AM
I'm leaning towards the 18th only because the 25th is Thanksgiving weekend.
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Dean on October 26, 2006, 04:40:27 PM
I'm for the 18th!  Tom or Cal, do you think the guy from the meeting should get a call?  I didn't get his name or number, but I think Glenn has it.  Do either of you have Glenn's number???  ...I'm not sure if he would be interested or not, but it would be an easy break-in for next year's tournaments if he really wants to get into some.

Dean, its up to you if you want to take him.  Glenn's number is 925-4002.

18th works for me
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Stan on October 27, 2006, 11:35:33 AM
So is the 18th the day?  If so I'll ask these guys but I don't want more non-boaters than boaters so I'll wait till Dean see's if this other guy wants to go.  How much  is it going to be?  $25 and $5 for Big Bass!?
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: TomG on October 27, 2006, 01:32:05 PM
18th sounds like the date.  Are we fishing as a TEAM??  I guess the first thing is to find out how many want to fish and if its individual or not, I would rather fish by myself and yea, yea, I know about getting more people on the lake however its not like we have a base club anymore and we are not trying to recruit members anyway.  After fishing a team circuit all year it's nice once in awhile to compete alone.  So find out how many are wanting to fish and who has boats.  I am by know means the person making  the call on everything I was just saying it would be nice to have a fun tournament just to keep everyone sharp during the down time.  I will stop now since I am starting to ramble............ :)
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: calincalif50 on October 30, 2006, 02:28:52 PM
it makes no diff to me, one person in the boat or 2. We still can fish as singles, I'll just have to use my front live well I guess, as for sharpe I agree, but the fishing is diff in Cachuma there's actually fish there and not always 90 feet deep.

So I'm game for either teams or singles.  We know we have 5 boats so if we can get 5 non boaters that's ten fishing.  $50 for big bass and $250 for the trny, maybe we can pay out 2 places; $175 for 1st, and $50 for second or make this a winer take all (except big fish)
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Stan on October 30, 2006, 06:10:06 PM
Singles is good for me.  Max is working that day so he's a no.  So I guess I just won't ask the other guys, they all tell me they would like to try it but I prefer not to deal with the headache of trying to get them to show up and tell them how to catch fish.  I'll save that for a non tournament day of fishing.  So if it's only 5 of us, I say winner take all. And of course the big bass pot.  But you got to show up to the weigh in on time!
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: TomG on October 30, 2006, 07:57:14 PM
So 25.00 for entry and 5.00 for big bass, 30.00 total.  Payout for 1st place only and big bass.  We need to address any rules prior to the tournament such as showing up late.  It can either be a DQ or we can assess something like 2lbs for being 0 to 15minutes late and so on.

What time does the lake open now?
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Stan on October 31, 2006, 11:20:06 AM
The fees sound good to me.  Rules sound good. Lake opens at 0600.

Did anyone make it out on Friday or this weekend?  I did not go out so next weekend will be my first time out there in quite some time.
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Stan on November 05, 2006, 06:26:15 PM
Yep, went Friday.  It was super tough, and one day before a full moon.  Three fish in about 6 hours and all dinks.  If it hadn't been so close to full moon I think I would have been skunked.  Hope it picks up.

Fishing didn't pick up much, went today and caught 7 fish 3 were just keepers, and in about 18-22 feet.  Couldn't meter any either, did see some biguns but they saw me too and left

Forgot the rest of the story.  Anyone know how frustrating it is to have to open the cowling every time you want to start the engine.  I did that all day because the starting motor wouldn't engage the flywheel, just sat there and spinned.  I would have to pry it up so it would engage partially.  Now it looks like a new starter is needed at $175....anyone know how to repair them?
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Stan on November 06, 2006, 01:30:55 PM
Cal I had the same problem with my BassTracker.  The Starter would spin but it wouldn't move over to engage the flywheel.  What I did was sprayed some WD-40 on the starter gear to loosen things up and bingo never had that problem again.  It's worth a try and cheap too.
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: TomG on November 06, 2006, 01:55:38 PM
I have never had that problem, I would definetely try Stan's suggestion before replacing anything.  So Stan how deep were those fish?
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Stan on November 07, 2006, 05:37:18 PM
Cal did you try it?  Alot of times you'll get some starter gear funk there and it impedes the movement over to the flywheel.

Those fish were 18-20 ft.  Not that I didn't try 2-50ft, that seemed like the only depth that I could get bit.  Of course I had my kids with me so that might partially be the reason I got only 3.  You know fixing there rods, changin' their baits, getting them un-hung, ..............  But I am pretty sure the fishing was off the day we went.  The lake could be on it's way to turning over, that usally happens about now, but the water was still pretty clear.  Have to check it out on my own, maybe Saturday.  When you going?
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: TomG on November 07, 2006, 09:17:50 PM
Friday and maybe Saturday depending on how I do on Friday.
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: calincalif50 on November 07, 2006, 09:21:51 PM
well the gear came unstuck and engaged the flywheel, but now the worm gear just spins while the gear stays put and won't turn the engine over.  Ran out of light after work, so will attempt again thursday after work to remove the starter  completely.  New one is exzpensive but without it I'm dead in the water, so will have to find a place that has one in stock and can deliver in short time
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Stan on November 08, 2006, 10:42:23 AM
Sorry to hear the quick fix didn't cut it.

Back to back days of fishing!  What's the determining factor for going back on Saturday?
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: TomG on November 08, 2006, 02:03:12 PM
The determining factor will be how many fish I catch of decent size and how well I am able to pattern them.  The number of places I get to cover and how comfortable I feel with some my new electronic gadgets that I have.

one thing I got was a depth finder which I should have figured out by tomorrow.  I installed it last night.  I didn't buy one of the big lowrance units, I went with another humminbird just a better one than what I originally had.  The other thing I will tell you about after the tournament.

Well looks like I got lucky...I can replace the bendix gear on the starter..cost...$40 with labor. Should be fixed by days end tomorrow

Stan,
Did you ever have 3 batteries in the back of your tracker?  It seems if I want to put 3, I have to move the two existing ones over to the walls gaining about 3 inches, and then moving the fuel/water separator or changing it to something more streamline.  as the OBC will be mounted right where the separator is now on the wall in front of the gas tank.  The 3rd batt will have to be mounted differently to fit and the configuration will look like this....  any suggestion beyond a bigger boat?
        |-| OBC

          B2      B3

Post by: Stan on November 09, 2006, 06:37:17 PM
Nope!  Never needed that 3rd battery in Texas, the wind wasn't blowin' a hundred miles an hour everyday like it does here.  Other than that, it looks like a good plan, just make sure it's safe.

By the way Tom, you need to go into your profile and change your Picture/Text.  You've been on the site for at least a year and your still labeled "FnG" or F***ing New Guy.  Just thought I'd bring that to your attention, if you hadn't noticed.

Yea, I think so!?!
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: TomG on November 12, 2006, 05:36:02 PM
Well, even though I said I wouldn't go again I went today.  All I can say is I am glad today wasn't a tournament!  I tried some new stuff and tried eliminating some techniques and areas for the first 3 hours, I guess it worked because I didn't catch anything.  When I finally did check a couple key areas that produced good for me on Friday nothing.  the last two hours I tried finding new stuff and actually started fishing to try and catch some keeper's and nothing.  Overall I got on the water at 0630....thanks to the park's department guy opening the gate at 0615 only after I had to call him on my cell phone, anyway left the lake at 1300, 0 keepers and about 8 fish total all dinks!

Ran into Cal at about 0930 he said he had two keepers at that point but it was slow for him as well.  Water clarity is getting worse.

Stan, take a look at the Anglers choice Schedule for Central Coast and Pacific Coast.  I think we should do the travelers thing where we can pick the one's we want and that way we could replace the May and June tournaments at Casitas for the central coast with Cachuma and Lopez for Pacific Coast.  Let me know what  you think, I am not sure if its harder to accumulate points for the travelers division or if its best just to pick one region.
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Stan on November 12, 2006, 09:06:15 PM
Yikes!  I hope it's cloudy this Saturday!  And cool too, if that's what happens to the fishing when the sun comes out.  I don't know what to do about Anglers Choice, guess we ought to talk to Eric.  Let me read the rules first.
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Dean on November 13, 2006, 02:10:56 PM
About the rules:  How about 1lb for 1-15 minutes late, then 1/2 lb for every 5 minutes?  I would still waive that if any of you broke down though, if you made every effort to get in prior... as in you weren't hangin' out fishing when someone came to pick you up.

Also, dead fish the same as gold coast is now 2/10ths for each dead fish.

Finally, no live trout used for bait! lo lo lo

Post by: calincalif50 on November 13, 2006, 02:31:29 PM
Standard 13" or better, crappie, bluegill, trout, cats, meeting these specs are.....not allowed,  :bang
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: TomG on November 13, 2006, 07:45:15 PM
Alright that's a proposal, now we need to decide if we want to implement any of these for the tournament.  Do we want penalty's for being late and do we want penalty's for dead fish?
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: TomG on November 13, 2006, 08:18:43 PM
Did everyone get that 3/4oz!................ lo
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: Stan on November 14, 2006, 10:56:38 AM
What 3/4 oz?  Although most clubs will DQ you for being late to the weigh-in, I'll second that for the rules that Dean came up with.  And standard 2 tenths penalty for dead fish.
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: calincalif50 on November 14, 2006, 12:56:48 PM
That's all fine.  but what is the stop time.  1430, 1530, 1600?

ok so lets syncronize our watches.
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: TomG on November 14, 2006, 07:20:22 PM
What time do we want to stop?   1500, 1530?

Also, the rules that Dean came up with are fine but I'm not going to quibble over a minute or someone who is 30 seconds late I personally don't mind giving someone a couple minutes (2) too show up but when you show up 5 minutes late then I would say assess the penalty.  But we can go with those rules.

Also, someone bring a reliable scale both of mine have been acting up.

We won't take off until everyone launches their boat but if 3 people have launched and the last person has still not shown up we won't wait.  Since its only us I don't have a problem if someone shows up late and just starts fishing, I don't need to see you guys livewell..........now if it was Bryan that might be another issue.......... ;D

I say we show up at 0545, get ready to launch, ranger opens the gate at 0600, and when everyone's in we go.  Or maybe even show at 0530 to beat the line.
Title: Re: Club Tournament
Post by: TomG on November 17, 2006, 07:17:11 PM
I agree lets show at 0545 and once everyone is in the water we can idle over to the no wake zone and take off.  If someone is 10 back in line we will wait.

1530 sounds good for weigh-in.

Well went to Cachuma today.  You shoulda went Tom, fished the same areas we fished tuesday and a couple of others.  Remember what I was using that you weren't.....well that worked alot better when I changed to the Lopez color.  Max and I probably caught 25  best going about 14-15lbs, a 4.5, 3.5, and several in the 2-2 1/2 range.  All Smallies.  And I didn't lose a single lure!  Best LMB was about 2lbs.

Did you get the better fish off the first spot that you and I tried??
Title: Re: Club Tournament

Nope!  That first spot only produced a few fish 'bout 1.5lbs same as when we went.  Maybe because I found it but without that high tech map, it was difficult to find the sweet spot.  The best fishing was on the opposite side of the river channel from there, up against the bank not far from the next major creek when your heading up the lake.
