Title: Prayers for my son
Post by: Donald Garner on February 24, 2025, 08:08:08 AM
Good morning to everyone,

I needs some prayers from my fishing buddies on here for my son.

Dwayne had another Seizure Wednesday afternoon while at work.
They got him to the hospital and he had a second Seizure while in the Emergency Room.

The surgical team spent 4 hours operating and had to give him 2 bags of blood.  There was a lot of blood around his brain that was lost.  He has shown some improvement after the operation according to the CSCAN.  He's still consciousness but he tries to open his eyes.  When you hold his hand he squeezes pretty hard. So that is a good sign.

My wife is up there now she flew up Saturday.  She'll be there with him till she decides to come back home here in Texas.

Tks in advance for the prayers.

Don

Good morning to everyone,

FIRST OF ALL THANK YOU ALL FOR THE PRAYERS.  The Almighty Above has heard them and has things under control.  Tks again guys we all appreciated them.

UPDATE:  Dwayne is still in Critical Condition.  He's got some movement in both hands and his lower body.  He tries to open his eyes but they don't stay open very long.  Yesterday he tried talking but nothing made any sense.  He tried to climb out of the bed and that didn't go well to say the least.  They strapped them down to keep him in bed.  They've put mittens over his hands to keep him from unplugging things and pulling the tubes out.

His brain is still swollen so they can't reattach the FLAP they constructed 3 yrs ago.  The doctor said once the swelling goes away they get that reattached as well as his skull.  Right now is Left side of his brain isn't protected by his skull. He's all stitched up for now and his head is wrapped to provide some protection.

They're suppose to move him from the ICU today to a room on the REHAB FLOOR.

So for right now he's horizonal and breathing on his own.

Tks again for all the prayers.

Don

I know from my bother right now that nothing heals fast when it comes to the brain. But even the smallest of things are great progress.

Laurie and I will continue to pray for him and your wife who is up there watching over him.

Post by: Donald Garner on March 01, 2025, 12:43:34 PM
Good morning to everyone,

Thank you all for the prayers for Dwayne.  Gail and I truly appreciate them.

Update as of 28 Feb 25;

Some things are going well and other no so much so.  Dwayne now has pneumonia in his Right Lung; He can't cough up the phlegm or mucus that has built up in his system.  The doctors have put him back on the ventilator.

He has shown some improvement and he's being moved out of the ICU into a Rehab-ICU area of the hospital.  If he continues to show improvement he'll be moved to another hospital there in Anchorage that deal strictly with Rehab.  Gail took a tour of the hospital yesterday and she was impressed by what she saw and briefed on.

His brain is starting to show reduced swelling which is good.  Bad news is its going to take a couple months of care and possible some more surgery before they can reattach the FLAP that covers that part of his brain.  Once the FLAP is reattached then the skull can be reattached.

Guys thanks again for the prayers.  More updates to follow as Gail passes them down to me.

Laurie and I continue to pray for Dwayne, along with you and Gail. I know he's got a long road ahead of him but it sounds like slowly he's headed in the right direction. If they can get him up and in rehab that should help with his lungs. We'll keep you all in our daily prayers.

Post by: Donald Garner on March 13, 2025, 04:09:07 PM
Good afternoon to everyone,

Prayers are being answer and THANK YOU ALL FOR SENDING THEM.

Gail told me this morning DW had a good night.  Couple days ago they had to strap him down in his bed.
He's starting to do more Physical Therapy everyday now.  Last night they put him in a Special Wheel Chair and took him for a little ride.  They came back and had him stand up with a Walker.  He was escorted down the hallway to the waiting area where Gail was taking a break.  She looked up and DW was standing right in front of her.  They let him sit in a chair there next to Gail for a little while.

Just got off the phone with her.  DW is now eating he passed his Swallow test yesterday.  All the food he's eating now is blending so it goes down easy.  He's starting to talk a little bit now also.

So guys, Thank you all we really appreciate the prayers.  We still have a long way to go but things are getting better.  His brain swelling continues to decrease in size.  They have a special head piece that he wears to protect his left side of the brain.

Tks again Don

Title: Re: Prayers for my son UPDATE 3 APRIL 25
Post by: Donald Garner on April 03, 2025, 10:50:43 AM
Good morning to everyone,

Update on Dwayne:
He's up and moving around on his own.  His rehab has / is going really good.  He's still having speech issues but over time we think this will correct itself.

If things continue to go well he will be having his 2nd Surgery here in a couple weeks.  At that surgery they will Reattach the FLAP over his brain and Reattach his skull.  They will keep him at the hospital to monitor the results from the surgery for a few days.

After that the decision for him is whether to move back to Texas or find a place there to live.  He's been informed that he isn't going to be able to live alone anymore now.

Guys, thanks a bunch for all the prayers.  They have been answered and Gail is seeing the end results everyday.  There's still a tough and long road ahead but we're taking it one day at a time.

Don
