Peacock bass. If you have never caught one, you owe it to yourself to experience catching one.
They are mean, acrobatic, extremely strong fighters, and did I mention they were mean!! Lol!!
You can be working your lure one second, and then all hell will break loose the next.
I had the enjoyment of catching a big Everglades Peacock the other day. This one came in at 4lbs 9oz, which is a good size for the Everglades.
I was working my top water lure when suddenly, I saw a torpedo swimming full bore towards the lure. The water suddenly erupted, sending water all over the place, as the Peacock annihilated the lure.
The battle was amazing. My line peeled off the reel as there was no way to slow down the initial burst of power the fish had.
Patiently, I worked the peacock closer and closer to the boat until we were able to scoop it up in the net.
Great catch!

That is a beautiful looking fish there😉
Tks for sharing the story line and those pictures.
Way to go my friend. You know immediately it not a large mouth as soon as the hook is set. We are so lucky to have these bruts in our waters. There is not a more beautiful fish anywhere then a big peacock!
