For an angler coming to south Florida during the winter, is peacock bass fishing a viable option? If so, what techniques are good when it's cold? Do most anglers switch up to largemouths during the winter?
Another great topic, Steve!
As the water begins to cool down, so do peas. After a certain water temp, usually around the mid 60's for a sustained amount of time, peacocks will die.
Winter peas I have found, and again, depending on the temps, I would target during the warmest part of the day. My focal areas would be those that will retain the most amount of heat.
The baits I would use would not vary from my summer baits, but my cadence may be a little slower.
Sometimes, peacocks will shut down altogether and will not become active again until there's a sustained warming trend.
