This coming from a horrible Christian. But I mostly try...
A couple of weeks ago I was working outside, fighting my zero-turn mower, amoungst other things. I know better than to cuss the small stuff, but of course I do it anyway. Bitching just comes too easy.
Then I heard the sirens in the distance, and as they made their way to the local Mennonite church across the way, I knew it was bad. When I was with the fire department that's where we set up our LZ for trauma patients to get airlifted, and it's never good.
I kicked myself for a few minutes, 'cuz I KNOW someone always has it worse off then me. I KNOW not to whine complain, bitch, etc. I know.
Then here comes the chopper, and it's over there so long they shut down the motor. That is bad juju. And you always hope it's someone that you don't know. But this time it was.
Robert Rages was a farmer near me who allowed me to fish and trap and artifact hunt his property for 26 years. He was 79 years old and a lifelong farmer who loved the land like no other man I've even known. He rolled his lawnmower over that afternoon, breaking three ribs on each side of his body and dinging his head pretty good. He lived a couple of weeks but finally went Home a week ago Monday.
Robert was a devout Christian who left behind the darndest family of God-fearing folks that you could ever know. I hate funerals- most of the time they're the same old same. Robert's was uplifting. Sad, but great at the same time.
Just wanted to share. Some folks make a real difference in this world. I wish I could be more like Robert. Peace.

Sorry for your loss. It sounds like your friend is with Jesus though. That's a good thing.

Then last night I found out ANOTHER farmer friend passed. Jonnie Dove was just a few years older than me. I met him in about 1978 at our local gun club where I was a trap boy, and we shot together for several years, including at registered targets. His dad and older brother were all known as the "Dove boys" and were all great folks. It's sad, but all cool at the same time if you know what I mean. Johnny and his wife were in our restaurant maybe a month ago.
Thanks guys.
