Title: Lake Saint John
Post by: skeeter_bite on March 29, 2023, 08:11:29 AM
Does anyone have any information on fishing on Lake Saint John just north of Natchez on LA side?  My inlaws have purchased a home there and want me to come over and help them figure out the bass.  I cannot even find a lake map to determine if there are any boat rows etc to run it.  ANY information would be helpful.  Thanks!

I have heard???? a few things about it. One of the moderators here on the site fished there 20 years ago, so this info is old and not much....

But he talked about how small it was. There were shallow flats with cypress trees that were a lot of fun in the spring. Once the water got warmer he started fishing boat docks religiously. He only fished junebug brushhogs. And then it was a great crappie lake...

No help I realize, but it's what I've heard....

Oof! Honestly, not a great lake but it does have a bass population. MLF did have an event that included St. John, I believe, so I would look that up for reference. Wheeler stroked em!
Its an oxbow lake with docks on one side and cypress trees on the other. Not very deep, and yeah, Id rather fish it for cats and crappie than bass. Lol. That being said, I'm sure there is a good bite out there somewhere and I havent fished it in 15 years but my son fishes it multiple times a year.

Looking at the map on my garmin, it looks like you can run the length of the lake in the middle (old river channel), and then idle towards the banks or is there any old standing timber to be wary of underwater there?

Wouldn't trust my memory on that one but know it is mostly a recreational lake.
