Title: Transducer Life
Post by: Bud Kennedy on December 29, 2022, 01:45:28 PM
Just wondering what is the expected life expectancy of a transducer.  I notice both of mine seem to have leaked a bit of encapsulation material but they both still work.  I think both of them are about 8-10 years old.

I dunno but that seems reasonable pending what all has happened too it- ie hitting the ground/stumps. My graphs on the tracker were 10 years old and still working good.

Never had one go bad now I have cut the wire on some and crack a few but all worked till I replaced them. The last one I replaced was over five years old and now it runs on a friend boat and still working great after three years.

I think a ducers life expectancy depend on their care and use. I remember a discussion some time ago about the higher end ones overheating when left on while out of the water, causing leakage. I doubt that's a problem for the basic 2D stuff, but mostly the higher powered side scan, down scan imaging units.
