Title: 2022 07 04 Nickajack TN River
Post by: coldfront on July 06, 2022, 08:51:12 AM
out early before the craziness started (July 4th).  Put in at a great little ramp in the TN River 'gorge' and headed downriver to some weedlines I've grown fond of...

TVA was again not running significant current (they tend to run it overnight and shut it down in the morning).  Water temps were 85°F.  Water Clarity was 1 - 2 feet and with a slight green tint.wind speed nominal.  Fog to start the day.  Clear skies up on top that later turned to about 65% cloud cover.

to set the mood... pre-dawn ... views, 'immersion' in settings like this are just not to be missed.  life is always better out there!

not really trying to catch the most, the biggest... just out trying to have some fun.  not a lot more enjoyable than just chunking and winding a horny toad (zoom:  green pumpkin/pearl) for a couple hours.  Fish were in the 'grass' and along the edges (deep river edges) and orienting on a specific grass type.  probably in the 6-8 foot depths...  might have been 'southern naiad'.  still trying to figure that out.

at any rate, found bass relating to edges and also underneath.  had a couple of 'river monsters' come up through the middle of the weed patch and get real aggressive.

kept thinking about tossing the Live Target mouse out there... but was just too comfortable chunkin/windin the toad.

nothing huge.  just fun.  most were in the 17-18 inch size class.  looked a lot like this

it's full on 'summer in the south' mike (as anyone who lives 'near Hades' like you do knows... lo .)

75°F air temps (and moving UP) and humidity to match.  great for those who love steam rooms!

not quite August where anything that dips 'below 80' for an overnight low is considered a 'break in the weather'!

Yeah, we are just about as south as you can get and not feel any gulf relief. Those about mid state actually are cooler because of the southerly flow off of the big blue...

I do love my morning summer adventures when I can get out...
