The blanks are from Predator Baits and I've been huge impressed with them. There are blanks out there that aren't very good- these have been great.
I rattle-can paint these- no airbrush. I'll be doing some how-to's in the future, both here on the UB forum and in my Hickbilly Outdoors YouTube videos. But I'm posting some of these here now as a little tease. Mr. Cork can tell you about it when he's ready.

Indeed the baits are pretty but that is not what makes them good. Quite frankly it is the stuff that DW does to these baits with the split rings and hooks that make the difference. I can't help but comment specifically about the hooks. I don't know what kind they are but I can certainly say they are really really sharp. Also noticed that he does not over do it on hook size. He is maintaining the baits action by not over doing the hook size. So, like many thing the devil is really in the details. Paint is nice but have you ever noticed your most productive baits are the ones that are battle worn and chewed up. JMHO
I paint a Rouge in PURPLE FADE. It is all Chartreuse with a light mist of Purple over the Chartreuse. The color is good for deep winter and has a glow to it on the deep stickbaits. I've never owned a Whopper Plopper but it looks interesting. The Bagley "B" at the bottom the Whopper Plopper image is both an outstanding painting and color. I'll buy 2 please.
I always bought clear blanks for clear water and painted them with light colors like lavender, purple mist or white mist while leaving some areas unpainted. The pattern gave the bait a slowly dying forage fish look including missing scales.

That purple over chartreuse sounds like some jerkbaits I had. They called the color Table Rock if I'm not mistaken.
Maybe it originated in MO at some point?

Table Rock Shad is a Tim Horton color. His is Chartreuse lower body and Purple upper body. My Purple Fade is all Chartreuse with a fine mist of purple sprayed onto the upper body and thinning to all Chartreuse 3/4 down from the top. The Chartreuse on my lure comes slightly through the fine mist of purple to create a unique color in the water. Tim and I had a few discussions, a couple somewhat heated, over the differences between the colors, catch rate, etc.. All I'll say is I'm not in the lure business and have never sold a crank bait. I have given quite a few of these away over 3 decades.

That's definitely different than what I had.
If the Tim Horton you mentioned is the current bass pro the one's I did have were from long before he was around.
But still, definitely a different color. Yours would be killer in the clear glacial lakes I fish.

That's Tim Hughes at Reed Springs MO. He's been painting baits for a long time.
I've never sold a one of these- I give them away, donate them for a cause, etc. I'm thinking it's more fun that way.
Dale
Darn it! My memory for names stinks. Tim Hughes it is and apologies to Tim Horton. Smallie, both Hughes and my color are for clear water. Mine glows more because of the Chartreuse undercoat and the top color being a fine mist. Anyone that wants to use the color is free to do so..
My signature jig patterns are used by a well known maker not on this site. Jig makers spend half their time on other jig sites stealing new color patterns. 20 years ago you could not find a clear strand swim jig on the net. I was too busy working to build or paint lures and let a young guy use my colors and patterns in his business. One jig I gave him was the clear swim jig. The net went from no one using clear strand to every maker selling one within 6 months. If you bought my patterns from the builder/ seller, he called them, LOZman's jig colors, A fishing name I haven't used in a long time.

Tim Hughes is the originator of the Table Rock shad color and I still have a old Rogue he painted in that color many moons ago. There's been a boat load of money won on it in the Ozarks for sure.
Wizard and Dale may remember the horny toad color grey ghost that was kinda a Table Rock and Ozarks secret and hard to find for years and Zoom would make a special run for the shops around here. Tim is painting the Plopper in that color and has them in the tackle shop behind Ulrich.
Of course I had to buy one.
'
I still use a version of that Grey Ghost.
Dale
I'm guilty of copying other makers for jigs, but I made them just for me and a couple of friends, never sold any.

Rodney, there are no copyright laws for jig patterns. Feel free to borrow (steal) whatever from whomever you wish.
