Title: I hope so!!
Post by: BassmanRudy on February 09, 2021, 06:27:14 PM
Or at least slows it down. 4 or 5 days in a row with freezing temps at night may do more than all the spraying and lake drawdown combined!!

It certainly won't hurt. I think the fact that we won't get above freezing for a couple days will help more than the nights. We'll have about 100 hours below freezing, could do a lot of damage.

I am so excited for the 7 days of below freezing.  Mother Nature is the only one that will destroy this nightmare.  And then again I have started fishing a lot of the Texas lakes.  They have it right.  Toledo, Big Sam and Mural are my go to lakes in the future.  I will miss Caddo but damn LA is not doing anything to help it or any other local lake for that matter.  And the broke off un-repaired channel markers cost me big!  I will fish the Cross Thursday night tournaments.  Murvaul also has a weekly Thursday tournaments I will hit several times.  I just wish LA would get their shit together.  The companies that are spaying are just using Round Up........WTH!!!!!  Not only is that illegal but dangerous for us to consume any fish that we catch.  They do not want take it out just make a difference and stay in business.  Rant done......

Round up?? Really? Is that even made for salvania?!?!

And yes I 100% understand you being upset towards channel markers that AREN'T maintained!! Both States have pretty boats paid for by us taxpayers they could afford to run all the rows if not daily at least once a week!

Round up is a weed killer....Roundup is one of the more toxic glyphosate products to fish and aquatic invertebrates, such as insects and crustaceans. This is because the toxicity of a product additive allowing the product to form a thin film on the foliage of targeted weeds. If you want an herbicide for controlling weeds around your pond or stream, you should select a glyphosate product specifically labeled for control of aquatic weeds. Roundup is not approved for aquatic weed control. Low-level exposures to Roundup in time do not tend to produce accumulations of the product in the tissues of aquatic animals.

Not intended for use on Salvinia and definitely bad for the environment and wildlife.  They are consistently using it.  Next time you see the airboats out.....take a look in the bed of the tow truck......

I don't know if the version of Round Up they are using is legal or not but just so that it's not spread on this public forum, the Round Up they are using is different that the version we buy at Home Depot. It's an ECO Friendly version, what that means and is it hurting our fisheries I can't tell you.

I'm hoping to find out more at the meeting on Tuesday.

I don't care what they are spraying, it's all poison. I hate giant salvinia but spraying chemicals in the lake hasn't done much to help the situation. It slows it down a bit but that's about all. I won't eat any fish from these waters where they are spraying.

I talked to the LDWF biologist the other night about this. He said it will be early April before we see the total impact. He said for the next couple weeks we'll see green leaves but it's dead. If it froze, it's dead. He did say that in areas that didn't freeze, they don't know about that but we'll see a significant reduction in Salvinia over the few weeks.
