Air temps around 60, Water temp 71, bluebird skies.
Fished the evening with the wife. I went most of the day without a bite. I fished the weeds with jigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, t-rigs and senkos and zippo bites.
So I tied on the infamous hula grub. Within a few casts missed what felt like a small fish then a few minutes later SHE bit and ran for deep water. I set the hook and new it was too big to be a bass. This lake is full of bowfin and it had to be one of the big ones. She jumped and I knew it was one, but my wife swore it was a bass. Then it pulled drag on my jig rod, this doesn't happen. It flashed again and I still thought it was no a bass. The net was still in the box and under all my rods. I handed her the rod while I dug out the net. I took back over the rod and this fish was still pulling like a freight train. A few seconds later Deb netted this beautiful girl. It took me a while before the old ticker slowed down after seeing her. I have caught lots of big smallies but they all excite me like a young boy and his first fish.
That was all I caught and after talking to a few others it was a very slow day. They all told me I should have been there last week.
The wife was catching lots of perch from a couple inches to about 12 inchers.

Great catch Zippy, WTG!! ~c~
Great fish Zippy. Used to have a place up in Conneaut right behind Midway beach. Caught a nice smallmouth around Midway beach one fall when I was younger but I don't think it was that big! Have to get back up there sometime to fish but not sure when. Down in Orlando now so it's a drive.
Love the reports, thanks!!!
Wolcy,
A guy just won a tourney there with a 25 lb. bag of five smallies. There are giants there but only a few know how to consistently catch them.
Dang, that is a big bag! Would love to get into some of those smallies:)
