The spring Florida trip will require me to perform presentations for both flipping pitching. I have no problem with pitching and do it very frequently. Flipping however is not something that I have done for a while since moving away from Santee. Flipping is a common practice when at Santee when hunting for the big girls hanging out on cypress trees.
I know the presentation process but just don't do it enough to be proficient and will usually opt to pitch instead. Basically the same deal but one provides more distance than the other. My distance on a flip is not good and I tend not to be able to get the boat position correctly to the cover where I can reach my target. At least I have a little time to practice this presentation before the Florida trip
Time to break out some old shoeboxes, bowls, etc. and practice in the driveway!
I live in Florida and I don't flip.
I stick to pitching. Though I have yet to really find a reason to flip.
Punching is just pitching with a heavy weight. That is what you'll be doing most often down here unless you plan on fishing lots of docks somewhere. But that depends on the lake you end up on. Again I haven't found a need to Flip at Okeechobee, or Kissimmee.
I've also fished Toho and I don't know that you'd need to flip there either.
I think you'll be just fine with your pitching technique. You may want to work on your punching though. Sometimes it takes some creativity to get that 1 1/2oz to 2 oz weight to get through some of the real thick stuff.
Just pitch your bait.
There is a lot of accuracy in flipping a lure. It is vertical jigging at it's best. A SHORT line gives almost instant contact with a bite. A short line gives more power on the hookset which is needed when fishing gnarly brush and vegetation. Pitching is better when you have to stay away from a bass' location. I found bass used the thickest, most gnarly cover available during the day. Most of my Florida fishing was with flipping stick in my hand.

The only time I flip is when I have difficulty getting a bait into a spot, looks like I had nervous and jerky for b'fast. lo lo I really should practice. lo ;)

The real art of this kind of presentation is not getting the bait in the right spot although that is one of the goals. The art is getting it there softly and quietly. I have watched some good flippers deliver this kind of presentation without hardly making a ripple on the water.
