Title: LOZ 30 May 2018
Post by: Wizard on May 30, 2018, 05:33:32 PM
I took one of the local alderman on a guided trip today. He has been hinting for a year about going with me. I'm trying to get something passed in Lake Ozark, Missouri and needing his vote, I accomplished two things, with a morning of fishing.
The guy said he could fish but when I gave him spinning gear, he held the rod and reel upside down. When I  saw that, no way was he coming near my bait casters. I got him holding the rod correctly and put on a guide worm. A guide worm is a pre-rigged finesse worm that will catch anything that swims. The older guides used them to make sure their clients caught fish. The old guides would guarantee that you would catch fish or you got your money back. The guide worm made sure the guide kept his fee.
It is hot as Hades on the lake, making it tough for older anglers to fish for very long. We fished for 3 hrs. before the heat became too much. After retrieving his worm from everywhere but in the water, I moved to a point in deeper water. He caught a 15 inch keeper bass, a couple of shorts and 3 nice crappie. My bass were all 2-3 pound clones. I was starting to wonder if I was catching a very stupid bass over and over. I had about 10-12 pounds of keepers and 8-10 shorts. OK for a 3 hour cruise. When he decided it was Michelob time, we went in. Folks, this is going to be a very hot and long summer at LOZ. I've never seen this much heat in May. The prediction for June-August is unseasonably hot. By the way, we fished 20 ft. of water. The bass were about 3 ft. off bottom. I stroked a whisky colored, 3/4 oz. jig about 5 ft. off bottom and all bass hit it on the fall.
