CONCORD, NH -- The Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire announces the launch of the 2017 NH Moose Permit Auction, its primary fundraiser to support the programs of the N.H. Fish and Game Department. Official bid guidelines and documents can be downloaded from the Foundation's website at www.nhwildlifeheritage.org (http://nhwildlifeheritage.org/) or by calling 603-496-2778
Sealed bids are due by August 11, 2017.
This year marks the ninth annual auction run by the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of New Hampshire. The Foundation is authorized to auction one permit this year, in line with statewide moose population goals. The highest bidder in the auction will receive a free 2017 New Hampshire moose hunt permit, as well as a 2017 New Hampshire general hunting license. Last year, the auction of two permits garnered bids from four states, with winning bids from New Hampshire and Massachusetts of $17,001.99 and $16,002.00.
Foundation Chair Steve White states, "The moose permit auction provides the Foundation with funding to support programs at N.H. Fish and Game that sustain wildlife conservation and education, especially for the youth of New Hampshire who are the future stewards of the natural environment in our great state."
The successful bidder in the 2017 auction will be able to harvest one moose of either "woops" in most Wildlife Management Units. The exceptions are Units H2N, H2S and K, where permit issuance has been suspended. Individuals who receive a permit in the 2017 New Hampshire open moose hunt lottery will not be eligible to participate in the auction.
New Hampshire's moose hunt takes place October 21-29, 2017. Additional information on moose hunting in New Hampshire, including rules, permits, and licenses can be found at www.huntnh.com/hunting/moose.html (http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/hunting/moose.html).
Proceeds from the auction help support critical fish and wildlife conservation initiatives, along with education programs of the NH Fish and Game Department, such as freshwater angler surveys, fish hatchery improvements, deer decoy replacements, continued lynx camera studies, boardwalk replacement at Great Bay Discovery Center, landowner access programs, and Wild Times for Kids yearly newsletter.
Since its establishment in 2006, the Wildlife Foundation of New Hampshire has awarded over 83 grants to NH Fish and Game projects, as well as sponsoring multiple years of Discover WILD New Hampshire Day.
