Hey there,
I'm considering buying a 99 Triton TR-17 with a 115 Johnson 2 stroke outboard. Boat appears to be very well cared for. The guy is asking 7 grand for it.
Any feedback about the boat/outboard would be greatly appreciated. I've never ridden in a triton or owned a Johnson outboard.
(The guy is willing to take me for a test run, thing about it, he live about 500 miles away. Just want to assure I'm getting a good/decent deal before driving all that way).
I fished some tournaments years ago with a buddy out of his TR-20. It was a '97 I think and it was a great handling boat.
IMHO you can't go wrong on the motor if it's been well maintained. As with any motor, even if the test ride lights your fire, have a shop give it the once over, hook it up to the computer and get the history. It may cost you $50-75 but it could save you from having to spend a lot more than that.
Should be a great small water boat as long as everything checks out. Just remember it is still 18 years old and one should anticipate some problems.
It's an 18 year old boat like Bud said, like PM said i'd have it checked out. If it checks ok try to get the price down, it would be a nice boat for small to medium size waters and calm big waters.

Update: I ended up passing on this deal and went with boat from my local lake. As much as i thought this Triton was a good deal, I ended up with a Champion 186 that had been recently serviced (within 2 months of buyin) and had a compression test with 120 on all 6.. Pretty happy with my purchase. Again thank you for all the input.
Congratulations on the new to you boat. I hope it brings you years of good service
Congrats on the new boat Lewis!! We need pics though!!
