We actually do have some big girls up here but most of them either live deeeep or just ain't stupid.  I have personally seen 3 friends catch a largemouth over 10, and the wife of a friend of mine caught one over 12 on a live shiner in the Charles River. That fish was in first place in the old In-Fisherman contest for the region for 3 months and almost won.

MA state record is 15 lbs. 8 oz, so we do have double digit fish despite the shorter growing season. Rare for sure but it does give us hope.  ~sun

A friend of mine was told that the 15+ beast State Record wasn't ACTUALLY caught at Sampson's pond....
Whether the guy that told him that was full of it I'll never know.
I also remember going to the store and getting the In-Fisherman weekly around here, I believe it came out on Tuesdays....

Man am I old

I have read where that 15 8 lb LMB is considered the largest specimen for northern strain EVER.
Most states up north have records for northern strains that are in the 11 lb range.

that MA fish is/was HUUUGE!

and as for that 9 pounder:  WOW!

I fished Sampson's once... ONCE...fishing was pretty lousy....
Worst part of the day was when we were coming in to the beach with the canoe to get out...
2 women with their 3 little kids were washing clothes in the beach/canoe launch area, one of the things they were washing were dirty DIAPERS!
I was bogued out.... yes, you read that right, diapers...

#Hurl

and they won't let those dirty gas/oil outboards onto their pristine waters.
