Title: 2006 Stratos 275 Pro XL w/ Yamaha 90 HP
Post by: golfmonke on March 26, 2017, 04:05:55 PM
Any thoughts on this boat?

I like the wide beam.

Not sure about the 90 hp.

The guy says he gets about 36mph top speed.

Great boat but not with a 90hp.  should be at least 115 hp to be truly viable.  I would pass on this one just because of the motor  Spec sheet does indicate that a 90 was available for that boat.  Just seems small.  You definitely need a test ride in this one if you are serious.  I would think 35mph with a full load might be a bit of a stretch but who knows.

Test drive is a requirement on any boat I will buy.  And a compression test.

Coming from a top end of 20 mph currently, the 35 would be plenty.

But not sure how long it'd take to get on plane, and if i'd have to run it WOT constantly.

Stratos hulls are great performers. 90hp seems low but setup and weight have a lot to do with performance. If you don't load it down and expect too much, it should do well. Big thing is checkout the motor thoroughly.

The Stratos 275 Pro XL is Max Rated for a 125 Outboard.    I too would pass on this unless it had at least the 115 hp.  Fiberglass boats are heavy and they take a lot of horse power to get the full performance out of them.

That 90hp would not provide you the performance you would need.
