Title: Main tank vs. saddle tanks
Post by: Wizard on September 24, 2015, 09:30:17 AM
My BassCat Puma is set up for tournament fishing. I have a 33 gal. main tank and (2) 10 gal. saddle tanks for 53 total gal. This will get me from Bagnell Dam to Truman Dam on the Osage river and back home without needing more fuel. Total distance = 180+ miles. Now, you don't need that much fuel most of the time. So, which tanks do you use? If you don't run far to fish the saddle tanks are best. If you run a significant distance, the main tank works best. I always add Startron even though I only use non ethanol fuel. I also run a tank dry periodically to reduce any additive buildup in the tank. I have followed this on the 17 bass boats I have used. Only one blown engine in 40+ years and that was from a bad oil pump.

My rigs have all only had the main tank with the exception of a skeeter and it only had saddle tanks. So I never got to play with it. Great info that makes sense.
