Title: 3rd Annual UB Rally - East Toho
Post by: Mike Noble on December 06, 2013, 07:57:49 AM
It is time to start planning our 3rd annual UB get together.  Baron will be headed to East Toho in January.  They have or will be soon changing the name of the place we stay for the rally...the new name is Boggy Creek Resort and RV Park.

The last two years, we have held the rally in March.  I checked the moon phases, the dates of a full moon are February 14 and March 16...if that sways your thoughts on a rally date.

Hopefully we'll have a great turnout, it is loads of fun.  The accommodations are really nice.

Please use this thread for date selection and thoughts on the rally.

I know you guys always have a great time at this event. One day Laurie and I are going to show up for some serious hawg hunting :-* Hopefully a date can be set soon, I know it's hard to get everyone involved but the sooner a date is picked the better.

So all you Florida, Georgia, Alabama boys jump in and start throwing dates out there :-*

Is this rally only for boaters or are non-boaters invited also.  If non-boaters are invited, how do you decide who will be fishing with each other. Also, is that a one day thing or a two day.

The rally is a weekend event.  Most folks arrive on Friday and stay until Sunday.  In the past, we haven't had a lot of empty back seats in boats...but if someone with a boat is coming alone then I'm sure we can work out something.  Hopefully lots will post here and we can get this going.

I should be able to make it this year. Either date is fine.

I would love to come this year, I missed it last year. The only problem I have is the boat issue. My boat doesn't have the power to pull that off. I only have 2 trolling motors. If someone is willing to let the Gambler in the back, I would be glad to meet up. I would chip in for gas and whatnot.

What a good weekend that would be. Fishing the weekend of March 15&16, then my anniversary the 17th! Its just like when I got married 2 years ago!

Good Morning Everyone.  Been fighting with snow, wind, ice storms, power outages, and everything else here in Northern NY.  Bad weather hit us earlier this year then normal.  Finally am caught up, power is back on, and starting to get things packed and ready for the long trip to Florida.

One of the highlights of the time I spend in Florida has been getting together with the guys and gals from UB.  Each year we get more people to come over and the management and staff of the Boggie Creek Resorts go out of their way to come up with cabins and RV sites for those who need it.  They really set a nice table for all of us last year and provided desert.  Have talked with our hosts and they are looking forward to serving us again this year.

Hopefully we will get a lot of people interested.  Mike and I are going to check out the fishing ahead of time and with the moon lining up at the right time this year we may have a shot at some big bass.  Got to get the big bass pool started!  ;D

Mike and I are very flexible on the dates.  What we wanted was as much feed back as possible from each one of you.  We want the best turn out possible and will work with everyone's schedules to try to have a date when the most people can make it.   ~gf

I only have to worry about when I am going to Disney for my wife's 30th. If I know soon enough for this trip I can plan around this trip. I really want to do this this year since I missed it last year. Late February maybe? 15/16 is full moon.

Was actually hoping that after how much fun it was the last couple years that more of the Florida UB members would get involved with this.   :)  Remember this is not limited to just Florida UB members, any UB member is welcome that might be in the Central Florida area.  ;D

Maybe with the Holidays it is too much to think about right now?  :-\

Will keep working with posts and open to any ideas as to how to get the word out to as many others as possible.   :-*

Okay I am off the following weekends in March:

14-16th and 28-30th

I am looking forward to some water time, hopefully weather is in between the last few years lol we had super-hot the first year then cold and super wind last year lol  I am also happy because I have a bigger better boat and that nasty grass won't be as much as a problem.

My offer still stands on fishing Kissimmee or Okeechobee one year.  East Toho has been fun, but a change would be fun as well.  I have stayed in Okeechobee at Rowland Martin and it was slightly better than the lodging at East Toho, also the Tiki bar has great food.  Just an idea for next year...

Anybody needing a seat? I'll check with the wife and see if see will be attending.. So far my back seat is free.  I ask we split the room cost since there are two beds if somebody wants to do that?

Gambler? I know we have been talked about fishing together for a while lol you can share my back seat both days buddy.

Just some more info for the not so sure guys.

The site has ramps, RV parking, and cabins.  The cabins are basic standalone hotel rooms with two beds.  Boat parking is plenty and each cabin have outside power outlets near the boat parking to charge up.  In the middle of the park is decent size pond that I have caught fish out of.  They have "no fishing" signs up however that is to keep non people staying in the park from fishing it.  Honestly I have caught more bass in there than on Toho lol probably due to weather lol The place also has a "general store" type little shop.  They have a few fishing items as well.  Attached to that is a restaurant/bar.  They have excellent breakfast and decent burgers.  In the past we arrive, all meet.... bull crap and look at each other's boats and converse.  We usually fish on Saturday and Sunday and have a dinner on Sunday night all together.  Most of us tended to eat breakfast as well together before launching.  It's a good time with great people I assure you.  I have had a great time two years in a row even if I didn't have much fishing luck.

Also not too far away (since near Orlando area) is other night life if you're bored and of course a Bass Pro... lol the only other place I have been to up there lol

I forgot what you all did last year,.....was there a friendly tournament on one of the days?

Looks like we will have at least 2 boats with empty spots (West and I) so we should be able to accommodate some non boaters.

Looking forward to meeting a bunch of the guys and catching some fish!!

15-16 of March is good for me. West I will take you up on your offer since we have been trying to get together. Flatsnbay, you have been more than courteous in your offer and I much appreciate it. I know canesfan is looking to come as well and may possibly need a seat on a boat. I will let the wife know the schedule, and arrange for the 16th off work if this is a final date.

So the 15 and 16th is a Sat. and Sunday.  And from what I read, you do your "banquet" on Sunday night?  Might be a problem for me. Have to see if I can get Monday the 17th off as I really don't want to be there late on Sunday and have to drive 3 1/2-4 hours and get up at 5 AM next morning to go to work.

LgMouthGambler I'm happy to have you on the back of the boat man.  I believe Mike normally fishes with Baron if I'm not mistaken.

Somebody asked about Sunday night dinner.  Sorry if the dinner puts a few off.. maybe we can do it Saturday night instead? Baron that okay with you if it means more can make dinner?

I plan on arriving Saturday morning around 9ish as my wife doesn't get off until 7am.  My wife will not be fishing.

Better to ask for forgiveness later, lol. No matter what I do I cant seem to get rid of her! ~roflmao. Too soon?

I am finally here and my cabin is still not finished.  They remodeled it and the internet has not been working that well so I have missed a lot of posts.  Do NOT use the old East Lake web site as it is not being supported many problems with it anyway.  The new name for this place is Boggy Creek Resorts and RV park.  They do have a current page on Facebook you can check out.

I can book the dinner for either night, but what we have found is Saturday night has worked the best due to many people leaving on Sunday to drive back home.  I am flexible and so is the restaurant.

Fishing has been a little slow, Cliff has not caught his annual 10 lber....yet!  I am finding some small schools of bucks, but have not found anything on the beds yet.  Frost warnings for the next two days are going to knock the water temps down big time.  Might be next week before it warms back up to where it belongs.  Will keep you posted.

Okay Gambler, the place was named  "East Lake Fish Camp".  The new owners changed it to "Boggy Creek" however I could not find a website for them.  The site I sent you is the old one.  The pictures are of the same park.  Along with the location (main thing lol)

Sorry for any confusion.  The number posted by Boats is the one I called to reserve my room.  They answer boggy creek.. but it's the same place.. new owners.

Sorry again bud.

Geeze, next thing you know it will be the stipulations in the divorce.

JUST KIDDING but does seem a little harsh, lol.

The place we go has a bunch of cabins and they have a restaurant.  We have all stayed there in the past and we do eat the get together supper at the restaurant on property.  Last year they had an area of the restaurant all set up for us.

I don't know if Boggy Creek has a website up and running yet but they do have a facebook page.  Guess the new owners changed the name from East Lake to Boggy Creek.

Looks like we have a decent little group.  I'm excited. Heck I'm going on a cruise in like a week and a half and I'm more excited about this trip lol  ~shhh

I have decided to come in on Friday some time after noon since check in is then.  I'll probably fish that afternoon and catch up on some sleep before fishing all day on Saturday.  The back of my boat will be empty that afternoon if somebody is looking.  lLmgMouthGambler has the back on Sat/Sun.  My wife is still coming up Saturday morning after she gets off work, so she will make the dinner that night.  She enjoyed meeting you guys two years ago and is glad to be able to make this trip.

Has anybody heard from CopnJacks?  I hope he can make it down this year.

I'm watching Baron's post for some updates lol I would love for us all to get on some decent fish this year!

That's funny right there! She is a little up in arms of whether she wants to tag along or not. She doesn't want to go venture out by herself, so she may just stay home for the weekend. Either way, I will be there. I'm pretty darn excited for this trip. Oh, I also buy her flowers on the 14th of every month (a little thing between her and I), this time I got twice the amount of flowers and a sweet card, lol. Kiss ass mode, lol.

Well,

Unless I find someone to split a room with me even though I live within 2 hours, I doubt I will be coming. As you probably already saw, Mauro who normally comes with me to outings like this can not make it.

I don't want to be driving all that way four times in two days, especially without someone helping me split the cost.

I have already spoken to Baron, I hope to make it but as of right now, it is not looking good.

If I don't make it, good luck to everyone that does go!!!

Well I am finally in the newly remodeled cabin and have internet as well.  Hopefully can stay on top of things a little better now.

There has been a lot of confusion over the name and the website.  The original name for this place was "East Lake Fish Camp"  new name is "Boggy Creek Resort and RV Park.  The phone number is the same as on the web page for East Lake Fish Camp, however the website is not being supported and emails are not being returned or looked at.  If anyone has a problem getting though or getting a reservation contact me.  I can provide you with the cell numbers of the managers.

Fishing has been a little tough, but the last cold front dropped the temps from the high 60's into the 50's.  Lots of beds getting dusted off so the big girls should start moving around soon.

If anyone needs anything or has any questions PM me and I will do the best I can to help you out.

Baron ~cf

OK I'm all by myself that weekend. The wife decided she isn't going to come with. I'm soon excited for this little get together. So what's the deal? We gonna have a little friendly competition or what? I have been scoping the lake out on Google maps to see what the layout is. West, I am going to be bringing pretty much all of my stuff so feel free to whatever you want to use. I figure I should have a feel of what's going on after the first day, so i dont whant to be ill prepared.

Ditto bud lol.

I will leave a back box open for you. Please bring a PFD if ya got one.  I will try and give you two back boxes if I can.  Plenty of storage on my boat brother. Also have a passenger side seat rod holder for your rods built in under the second console.

I spent quite a bit of time researching the lake last year.. didn't help with 40mph winds at 40° lolol my old boat literally was getting moved with the trolling motor on full speed lol. New boat has a powerpole though and better trolling motor lol

Hope the weather improves here shortly.  Was so cold this morning that everything from the truck, boat, grass, and roof tops were all covered with a heavy frost.  ~xyz  When I got here two weeks ago it was perfect  ~gf ....water temps were into the mid 60's and the buck bass were moving around, cold front last week drops the water temps into the 50's, was just coming back a little to about 60 when this current front hit.  Have not been on the water in two days and have to assume that the temps are down into the low 50's.  Will see what happens when the Cracker boys have their tournament this weekend.  Plan on making it a point to check out the weight in.  ;)

It could be worse....my home town of Watertown, NY was recorded on the National Weather as having the lowest temp in the nation at a -37 degrees at 1 AM on 1/22/14.  :shocking:

Cracker Boys had 60 boats in their tournament this past Saturday on East Lake and faced really bad cold weather conditions.  Most every boat caught at least a fish, half the field caught limits.  Average bag was 8 to 10 lbs.  Big bass and 2nd big bass were 4 and 3 lbs.  Not bad for the cold conditions they fished.

I fished Sunday after the event and stayed on the main lake most of the day.  Caught several decent sized bass 2 to 2 1/2 lbs and due to the nicer weather actually saw some activity on the surface with bass chasing shiner.  Water temps by the end of the day were getting to 58-59 degrees.

Warm temps next week should start heating the lake back up and hopefully the big girls will start moving in again.

I keep a very low profile around here FlatNbay.  My boat only has a 150 on it and it is embarrassing to see all these high powered bass boats following me around all the time..... ~roflmao

The fishing has been on and off with the fronts that keep moving through.  I have gotten several good fish in the 5+ category.  Just have to be in the right place at the right time.  Lots of smaller 2 to 3 lb buck bass all over now and if the water would warm a few more degrees I think the action will take off.

I plan on ordering some Gambler EZ Swimmers as well from Tacklewarehouse since BassPro doesn't carry them.

I am planning a trip to Seoul, Korea between now and the third week of March... Being busy with work right now is a good thing, so maybe again next year I will be back.

Slight change of plans for me....I'll be coming over early Sunday morning instead of Saturday. Would like to meet up with the group for breakfast if everybody still plans on doing that. Still have an open seat for Sunday if anybody wants to come over and fish for the day.

West, send me a pm with your cell # so that we can link up. If not, I should be able to spot all of LMG's shiny new rods and reels glaring in the sun as I am running across the lake!  ~roflmao

Oh and LMG you bring any and everything you want!  Plenty of room!

leatherhead the last few years we pretty much end up eating breakfast together then hitting the water.  We also met down by the ramp.  Which is by the restaurant/store.  Plenty of boat parking around there and that's also where you go check in if your getting a cabin.

Don't tell me that. I would have to bring my boat and tow it behind yours to put my rods/reels and tackle bag in.  lo  You wanna see people laugh at us!

Is there a tentative schedule or meeting place and time? I am planning on being there sat with my son, possible Sunday also don't know yet.

The cabins are along the road heading to the boat ramp.  Most everyone will either be around the cabins or up at the boat ramp, which is where the store and restaurant is.

Papa,
I am pretty sure that we are only going to get to leave Thursday. I would love to take the whole week off but I am gonna have to find someone to stay with Jamie as it is since we will be gone and she will have to be able to get to work. I don't think that Mike will let her drive the car with just her permit   aa

Laurie

You gotta make it down some time Mike!

I'm excited for sure! Got my BPS gift card refund so I'm gonna him them this week for some new line and swimbait hooks.  Detail the boat and pack.  Looking forward to seeing your ugly mugs again!

I'm coming up Friday AM after work.  I'll catch a nap and plan on fishing that afternoon if anyone wants to share the back of the boat.  If anyone is there that day.  PM me if you want my phone number.

So, anyway, any interest in a big fish tourney amongst us that are going? $5 a head, winner takes all?

Yep! Just one more night of work for me.

Gonna get off tomorrow, head in to town to pick up a new TM cable and get the truck washed (been needing to for a while lol).  Probably going to nap a few hours then head over in the afternoon.

Weather looking okay.  We had no wind and heat the first year... too much wind and cold last year.. maybe sunny one day and rainy the other? Hope the front holds off.

Great get together, good seeing the guys and meeting new people. Mudfish on Friday , caught 5 and the wife caught 2 on Saturday also caught up with a friend from up north named P. Ickeral. Pictured is the size of the monsters everyone was catching Saturday.

Had a great time hanging with everyone.   I say Kissimmee or Okeechobee in April next year for the meet.  We had great weather this year but nobody could find fish over 2lbs lol Heck we couldn't find a two pounded lol

Wait I forgot... lol.. I did catch a 3-4lb Pickrel lol

LMG and I hit West Lake Toho today with ZERO... yea the wind was a little bad but unlike East Lake there are island and cuts to hide and fish behind.  West Lake was slammed with boats though.

I just made it home safe and now time for a nap!

It was good meeting everyone today. I think that I was the only one out on East Lake today braving the wind and man it was windy!! I ducked into the cove and flat just west of the marina and found a few fish. The wind must have turned them on with all the water moving around. I managed 5 keepers off of a Bitter's Naked Swimmer (Skinny Dipper imitation) in bluegill color. Biggest was about 3 1/2 and I lost another 3 pounder at the boat. I had a few more hits and saw a couple nice ones locked on the beds. I would have like to spend more time in that spot but the wind got the best of me. I did meet Mr. P Ickeral too!!  lo

Thanks LMG for the baits and Baron and West for getting everybody together!  ~c~

Wish we could have found some in the 3.5lb range Saturday, for those that have never been to East Lake here is a picture, it's basically a bowl surrounded by reeds.

I had a great time meeting everyone. Got home not to long ago, and finally got all the rods/reels and tackle away, lol. I'm with West, we should find a better spot for the meet. Kissimmee is a good spot since you can access a few lakes on the chain from one area. Okeechobee is also a good idea since you really can't go wrong anywhere in that lake. Maybe shoot for an April meet. The fishing and weather is more predictable  then.

Steve, nice to see you had some action today.

To all the rest, I leave you with this.
