Henderson,
Although I personally don't go lookin for sponsors, the best advice I can give you is to invest in Fish For Free's books.
This isn't an advertisement, but actual advice.
Most of the people who have read his books have obtained valuable information from them.

Okay welll that was good advise....  ~c~... Altho I haven't read the books I heard good things about them...

Make yourself known to the sponsors you are trying to pursue!.... Since you're so well known in your hometown start with local companies and advertise for them...It's not about what sponsors can do for you, it's what can you do for the sponsors first. Once they see you as an asset they'll realize you're a good investment. This will not happen overnight in most cases....

Well stated sc ~c~ ~c~  Over the years, some of my sponsors came to be without asking.  As I got to know different people and companies, they brought up the idea to sponsor me.  But it does take time to build a rapport with a potential sponsor.

Here's some advice comin' from another young guy.....

Go to your local mall, or hangout area and look around? Find the nearest adult and ask what they think of todays teenagers. Now, this is not true about every teenager, this is just a typical "stereotype" that we get. A lot of people view today's teens and disrespectful and ill-mannered. What you need to do is build yourself a reputation of being the EXACT OPPOSITE of that. I was raised by my parents to respect my elders, and I do. I currently am on 2 pro-staffs, one of which came to me and the other I contacted. But both of the gentlemen said that the big factor was the way I represented myself. So you need to make sure you use your "yes sirs and no ma'ams".

Also, let them know what you bring to the table as a young angler. Many sponsors may not think that being so young that we offer them anything, so prove to them that YOU can bring business to their company.

Hope that helps.... ;)

Getting sponsors is just a matter of being professional, having a well put together resume', being persistent, and well spoken.  Every business wants and needs customers - how are you going to get those customers to these businesses doors?

Bottom line - you can find a sponsor if you want a sponsor.  Fish for Free is a great place to start.  Scott has done a great job of putting the required steps onto paper and a fisherman looking for sponsorship should really consider his book the golden dictionary of success!!

Besides all the great advice listed all ready in this thread remember yo are looking for a job.  If all your looking for is some free stuff then you will not last long in the market.  You have to work for the company, and show them you are an asset to have for advertising, customers and the bottom line increased sales.  Its a job, can't be any clearer then that.

Good Luck
