Title: Looking for bass in Wichita
Post by: PapaCarpenter on May 26, 2013, 09:25:43 PM
Moved to Wichita a couple of years ago and just now starting to check out the area lakes.  Found a place today that had a few decent bass and caught some small ones.  The learning curve for bass lures is pretty big so I'm still trying to figure out the best way to use the tackle I have.  If anyone's in the Wichita area, I would appreciate any thoughts you have on decent bank fishing ponds or lakes.

Tough to find any good public fishing from the shore, the dam at Marion is good for White Bass and Crappie, the dam at Cheney is good for Walleye during the spawn, they are catching good Crappie at the Marina.   Your best bet is to start talking fishing every chance you have and see if anyone has a private pond or watershed they will let you fish.

Hey Travery5, thanks for the advice. I've been out to Cheney once and it was so windy I gave up. Haven't made it to Marion so may try that sometime. I've found a few out of the way spots in town that have been ok, and I've been invited to a few private ponds but haven't made it to them yet. Is the marina accessible where it can be fished by walking?

Yes you can fish the Marina area at Cheney by foot, the Marina is on the East side of the lake.
