Title: Abu Garcia Blue Max
Post by: Blacknredflake on August 19, 2012, 08:27:31 AM
 ~gf

Academy down here in La has the Abu Garcia Blue/Pro Max rod/reel combo for only $60 bucks!!!

Im looking into getting a new worm/jig setup.  this combo/ the rod is '7 and is Medium Heavy.  Nice and stiff ho I like. But can anyone comment about the reel?

Realize Im a budget angler and cant exactly afford them high dollar setups!

That's an awesome deal for a Pro Max, it's an upgrade from the black max which I have and really like.

Its an upgrade over the black max which a lot of people like. I haven't used either, but it should do you just fine.

I am confused. Are we talking about a Blue Max combo as the subject of the message notes or a Pro Max combo.  The Academy website has a Blue Max combo for $60, a Pro Max combo for $100. A Pro Max combo for $60 would be a great deal, I don't know what the standard cost of a Blue Max combo.

Ok  then that is my fault. I have heard people call the blue max a pro max.  Its the blue max combo I was looking at

Never heard of Blue Max, it's not on the Abu Garcia website,  the Black Max is really nice for a cheap reel,  but can't give any info on Blue Max,  sorry

I believe the Blue Max is a saltwater-rated version of the Black Max reel.

The Blue Max is an inshore, wading reel, for targeting slot reds and other "flats" fish. Most are about the size give or take as a bass, so it would work great for bass fishing, and would probably last longer in fresh water vs. salt.

I'm thinking about getting one of those combos, been using a H20 Mettle and it works good for that too. Many guys around here are using older Shimano baitcasters.

My Shimano Bantam 100 that my dad gave me as my first open face died on me the other day.

I can push the button to cast but it wont click back up to reel. I have to pull the button up and then i can reel it in.  Kinda sucks since 4 days before that I sent my Ambassaduer 5000 off for repairs.  So Im left with a gimpy shimano til I buy a new reel or get my Abu Garcia back.

Talk to Pro Reel, I bet he can get it squared away for sure. I don't think it is much, sometimes a spring, or lever. I had a Garcia Round reel,  a long time ago that it was just a cleaning because grease settled in the wrong spot.

I grabbed a pro max and it has been great. It is my first bait caster. Need help tuning it though.
