TULSA, Okla. (January 3, 2013) – Jack Link’s Major League Fishing has a message for sports fans across the country: Take a free look at an extended-coverage Internet broadcast of the league’s second event, The General Tire Summit Cup.
Major League Fishing is offering seven web-based broadcasts – called EXTENDED CAST – of the Summit Cup competition days on Western New York’s Chautauqua Lake. The episodes feature a more in-depth look at the action offered on Major League Fishing’s hour-long program on Outdoor Channel, America’s Leader In Outdoor TV. Each Pay-Per-View (PPV) episode will be available one week after its companion Summit Cup TV episode begins airing on Outdoor Channel.
The first EXTENDED CAST episode of The Summit Cup, however, is different. Episode 1 is being offered at no charge and will be available immediately following tonight’s primetime Outdoor Channel broadcast, which begins at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. “The bottom line is that the hour-long broadcasts on Outdoor Channel are terrific. But we feel that a true fishing fan might want even more, and Extended Cast delivers double the action. In fact, the Extended Cast versions are so good that we want to do everything we can to encourage our loyal audience. And everything we can means offering the first one free of charge,” said Major League Fishing Commissioner Don Rucks.
Major League Fishing angler Boyd Duckett was even more direct in his assessment of the EXTENDED CAST programs.
“If I’m a fisherman, and I wanted to get better at catching fish, I wouldn’t miss this. This is a broadcast pro-anglers watch. Even guys that compete in Major League Fishing are watching these broadcasts because they learn things. Anybody that is interested in fishing should take a look at this because it goes places no fishing show has ever gone,” Duckett said.
“This is kind of like getting to spend an entire NASCAR race with cameras and microphones in the cars with all the drivers. You watch and hear everything important that happens.”
The league will offer seven Internet broadcasts, with one new episode presented each week. After the initial free week, the EXTENDED CAST total-event package known as BassPass will cost $15.94, with individual episodes available for $2.99 each. Rucks said that each EXTENDED CAST show features many attractions, including:
• More than twice the coverage than what will be televised on Outdoor Channel
• Commentary from anglers during competition about how they searched for, found and caught fish
• Unedited anglers’ reactions to their own frustrations and successes, as well as reactions to other competitor activity
The Summit Cup was filmed August 27 through September 1 on Chautauqua Lake. Outdoor Channel will broadcast its hour-long shows six times per week during the first quarter of 2013 on Outdoor Channel. The Championship Round also will air February 9 at 1 p.m. ET/Noon CT on the NBC network. Subsequent to its airing on NBC, the championship round will re-air on Outdoor Channel the following week.
Major League Fishing’s made-for-television events utilize a format that allows anglers to weigh all the score-able bass that they catch. The bass are immediately weighed after they are caught, then released back into the water. Anglers know where they rank in the standings at all times via real-time leader boards in their boats. The competitors are not allowed to practice before events.
