Recently while fishing some shallow water for spawning bass, I encountered chopped up hydrilla on my water intake and noticed water was not exiting from nipple on lower cowling. I immediately shut down motor and trimmed it up and sure enough the water intake screen was plugged but very hard to reach from inside the boat. Almost fell out of the boat trying to clean it off. On the way home I stopped at local home improvement center and bought some 3/4" PVC pipe and another stop at dollar discount store and picked up denture cleaning brush. I heated the end of the pvc pipe with heat gun enough and flattened it out enough for brush handle to fit inside, drilled two small holes and attached two screws to hold in place and cut the pvc pipe to desired length for reaching the water intake screen. Also added some spray foam into pvc pipe for flotation in case of being dropped overboard. See attached pictures

I'd have to say that PVC pipe ranks right up there with duct tape for the "all purpose item" to have hanging around in the garage. Inexpensive too. Now if I could just find a recipe to make fuel for all my vehicles.
