I thought this might be a good place to add a forum for the Florida State Bass Fishing Information. I know that there are a lot of you out there talking about fishing and this will give you a place to talk about the area fishing information that isn't really a fishing report. Things like slot limits, lake closers, Fishing and Game issues and trips or stories about Florida.

There is a website for most of the waterways in Polk County. It is a new site, and is being updated alot.

It is provided courtesy of Polk County Natural Resources Department and USF.

Here's a site that is real helpful.
It is a listing of most of the common and not so common fresh water fish and their identification found in Florida, when I catch something I don't know what it is, this is where I look.
Its the State's official list.

I thought I would share the following information with my fellow Floridians who love Bass fishing as much as I do. This is an excerpt from an email conversation I was having with a fish biologist from FWC:

The new Florida Bass Conservation Center http://www.myfwc.com/Fishing/FBCC/index.html in Sumter County will begin test production this year and then ramp up production next year.  It is focused on doing the necessary genetic, health, nutrition and population dynamics research to ensure that bass stocked out have the greatest potential to survive and reach harvestable size.  We anticipate that in conjunction with the massive habitat restoration programs our agency has undertaken and efforts to work with the agencies that have statutory responsibility for water quantity (regulated highs and lows), water quality and aquatic plants to enhance habitat and wise regulation management, this will help maintain Florida's status as the Fishing Capital of the World.  Because of our great resources and responsible management Florida benefits from a $7.8 billion economic recreational fishing impact, the much larger state of California is second with $5.1 billion.  Similarly, we have 3.1 million anglers using our resources each year and California (again second) has 2.4 million.  We're working hard to keep it that way and know that only having quality fisheries for the long term will ensure anglers continue to enjoy our resources.  The recent Bassmaster Classic on the Toho chain broke record after record including the three biggest bass ever caught in the Classic's 36 year history, biggest overall winning weight and biggest weight for a single tournament day.  Hopefully that attests to some level of success we are having with our bass management efforts.

Our "Big Catch" program http://www.myfwc.com/Fishing/bigcatch/bigcatch.html does record the biggest reported fishes of 30 different species.  We are working on a way of displaying them for the public.

Checked out the license site but could not find any where to buy a non-resident Florida freshwater fishing license.  Anyone know the link or site I need to go to?
Thank you.

Phone - 1-888-347-4356  If that does not work - call 1-800-basspro and I think they sell FL licenses as well.  They will give you the license number and you can write down.  Use that until paper copy shows up.

Wow, a fishing forum where people actually help and provide information.  I am impressed and want to say thanks for the help.  I now have a printed receipt for my 2007 Florida Non-Resident Freshwater fishing license, they are going to mail the original to me.  Looking forward to coming down in Feb. to try out some more of the Bass fishing and leave the cold, snow and ice here in the 1000 Islands of NY for a while.

Now down to the good stuff....where do you guys hide all those 10 pounders? ;D

OHbassaholic

It's not that they hide them, they just can't keep track of them.  That is why they spend so much time looking for the dang things.  At least that is what they tell the spouses...  ~shhh

Thanks Sharron,

I'm going to start looking into these as I'm heading to Floriday in April.  Since I don't know the area, I'll be looking for whether or not any of these are close to Lake Davenport or Lake Toho.  I'll be staying at Bahama Bay Resort and will be driving for a day of fishing with 2 others.  I'm interested in a place that will rent me a boat for the day that s not a 16ft fibreglass johnny boat with 9.9.  Too difficult to fish bass out of them, so I'm looking for something better.

If there is any chance you are geographically inclined, I would appreciate if you could send me an e-mail with some places that are driving disance from Davenport if you could, otherwise I"ll go through the list myself and try to find the ones close.  Thanks again for the info. My e-mail address is

Cheers,

Sharon

I'll see what I can find. Davenport is close to I-4 and Hwy 27 both major highways to get you where you need to go. Also, Winter Haven Chain of lakes is like 20 minutes from Davenport. Let me look around, see what I can find, then send you that email.
