When you cast out your crank bait, let it sit on the water for a moment before you start cranking. Often bass will react to the splash and hit the bait as soon as the lure moves. You have to give the bass time to get to your lure so let it sit a moment.I will let all the ripples disappear.. Fitz.............

That's a good tip, that's exactly how I fish topwaters like poppers, but I'll have to try it also with cranks  :-* :-*

It works for sure!  One of the biggest bass I've ever had on the end of my line came this way.  I tossed a rapala broke back minnow right against the grassline and let it sit while I talked my dads ear off about whatever we were talking about that day.  When I finally came to my senses I moved the bait about 3" and a monster LMB came strait out from under it and inhaled it.  Took him all of 10 seconds to crush my poor rapala and leave me a sad puppy...my dad said "There goes your 11lb8ozer for real."  That's a running gag between the two of us on a lost lunker but he wasn't joking because it was HUGE.  The front trebble was crushed flat like you ran over it with a truck and the rear had 2 sides bent strait.  My drag was set light but that joker surged so hard it must not have slipped smooth enough...
If you build a ramp...I will come...

ive had times where a bass has hit a crank soon as it hit the water, I agree If the spash gets the bass attention, its a good idea to wait 3 4 5 seconds before retreiving the bait.

My son-in-law tossed a crank bait, and in the process got a backlash.  As the crank sat there, a four pounder came up and nailed it.  He got it in by doin' the ole hand over hand retrieve.  We both learned a lesson though and we have let cranks sit a while before reeling them in ever since. ~cf ~gf

Have to try that.  Always so intent about putting the bait in "the zone" I tend to forget about things like that.  Little tips like that can make a difference.   ;D ;D ;D
