I think we all have been there. Yank the trolling motor rope up to get to the next spot, and snap the rope breaks. Of course it happends at the worst time(tournament, or Night time!) If it hasn't happened yet, it will  >:(

The rope just about always breaks at the knot end on the motor, where it rubs against the metal of the bracket.

First cut the knot where it goes thru the bracket. Take some wire heat shrink tubing and feed it over the rope. Move the tubing up the rope, retie the knot. Then pull down the heat shrink tubing to the knot. Lightly heat the tubing until it shrinks around the rope.

This will protect the rope, and the rope will last longer. This works well  :-*

But I even took it a step farther. While in there working with the rope; add another piece of rope a little longer than the main rope. Tie a knot on both ends after its thru the mount. Take the secondary rope and lightly wrap it around the main rope, semi slack. Stick the knot (handle end) into the slit on the side of the handle (if if has one) or just put tape around it to hold it to the main rope so it's now out of the way. This rope is used secondary if the main rope breaks. It's not used at the same to pull up the motor no tention).

Now when the main rope decides to break; no panic use the secondary rope and no down time on the water.  Haven't had a problem yet. ;D

Another tip is to get some lawn mower line, and the weave is small and tight. I've broken my rope several times and yes it's aggravating
This stuff takes care of this situation. Have had mine on now for appx. six months and it shows no wear.
